Mouthwatering World Cup Classics on Max TV

0

The echoes of groans, moans and “loud” tears are still reverberating a decade after the pain.

Thursday 2nd July 2020, marks exactly 10 years to the day when Luiz Suarez of Uruguay, stopped a goal-bound shot with his hands to kill the Ghanaian and African World Cup dream.

The momentum that was halted at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium and a certain victory that would have secured a semi final berth at South Africa 2010, still haunts the continent.

A straight red card to the devilish South American, before Asamoah Gyan stepped up to smash his penalty against the bar finally broke the heart of a nation.

Thus, the dream of a historical semi final or final berth on African soil was lost.

Today’s kick-off to the World Cup Edition of Max Tv’s Black Stars Classics, would be graced by no less a personality than former Black Stars’ Captain Stephen “Tornado” Appiah.

Also worthy to note is Yaw Ampofo Ankrah’s returns to TV to anchor the BLACK STARS CLASSICS (World Cup Edition).

This 90 minute per epidode series on Max TV, begins airing live on Thursday 2nd July at 3:30pm.

The series puts a spotlight on Ghana’s participation st three World Cups and promises tons of bitter-sweet memories.

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has cancelled the 2019/20 football season.
This decision was taken by the GFA Executive Council after a meeting was held on Tuesday, June 30, 2020.
A statement from GFA read: The Executive Council of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), has taken a decision to cancel the 2019/2020 football season following a marathon meeting on Tuesday, June 30, 2020, at the GFA Secretariat in Accra.
This means that the Ghana Premier League, the Division 1, 2 leagues and the Women’s League have all been cancelled.
The GFA in March suspended all football activities following a directive by President Akufo-Addo.
Clubs can now prepare for the new football season which is likely to start in September.
Max Sports will bring updates on reactions to the cancellation on it’s flagship radio sports show Sports Pack 1 from 10am on Wednesday.

Nana Kwame Nketia: FA’s late decision to cancel football season huge loss to clubs

Berekum Chelsea CEO, Obed Nana Kwame Nketia says the Ghana Football Association’s late decision to cancel the Ghana Premier League is a huge loss to the clubs.
The FA took a decision on June 30, 2020, to cancel the 2019/20 football season after a hiatus due to COVID-19.
The experienced football administrator speaking to Max 89.7 FM said although the decision may be best at this point it came too late which will bring some form of financial difficulty on the clubs.
“Although the league has been cancelled it is just like no season has been played. So all the monies we spent are at our own cost. This decision should have been taken earlier so we prepare adequately, it came too late. If we have to pay some monies to certain players we have no option than do so”.
A statement from GFA concerning the cancellation said the decision was reached after an Executive Council meeting.
Meanwhile Kumasi Asante Kotoko and Ashanti Gold will represent Ghana at the CAF Champions League and the CAF Confederations Cup respectively.

The Electoral Commission has set Tuesday, June 30, as the day to start compiling the new voters’ register. This exercise is to end on Thursday, August 6.

John Mahama: Supreme Court’s ruling on new voters register highly disappointing

0

According to John Dramani Mahama, the flagbearer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), he is dissatisfied with the ruling of the Supreme Court allowing the Electoral Commission (EC) to compile the new voters register ahead of the general elections in 2020.

Mr Mahama, expressing his dissatisfaction, said the Supreme Court’s ruling is disappointing to the NDC and Ghanaians at large.

In a televised broadcast on Thursday, June 25, he said “The supreme court of the Republic of Ghana gave its ruling in a case brought by the NDC against the Electoral Commission of Ghana over its decision to compile a new voters register … the apex court of our land has given a leeway for the EC to go ahead with the exclusion of the existing voter identification card from the list of identification requirements for the registration for the register. We are deeply disappointed and we strongly disagree with the court over this outcome which has confounded many legal experts and indeed has thrown the whole country into a state of confusion.”

Mr Mahama also added that the Supreme Court made the decided deliberately to give reasons for their judgement on July 15, 2020; two weeks into the registration exercise just to favour the EC.

Lamenting over the issue, he said “Our legal team is examining this decision even as we await the full reasons for this judgement. It is also worrying that the court deferred the reasons for its decision to 15th of July, a date by which time the EC would have been two weeks into the said registration exercise.”

However, Mr Mahama stressed that the NDC strongly believe and will continue to promote democracy within Ghana as it is the fundamentals on which the party was built and formed .

“Throughout its history, the NDC has stood strongly for an inclusive democracy, that is because our party is built on the principle that no one should be left out in the governance process of Ghana,” he said.

On Thursday, June 25, 2020, the Supreme Court unanimously dismissed a case filed by the NDC to stop the EC from compiling a new voters register for the December 2020 general elections.

In their writ, the opposition NDC stated that the EC’s decision to start a new voters register was unnecessary and costly. It will also disenfranchise a lot of Ghanaians since most of them do not have the Ghana Card or passport which is also one of the primary requirements for the registration.

The NDC party was praying the court directs the EC to add the existing voters ID card as well as birth certificates as part of the requirement. However, the Supreme Court did not find merit in the NDC’s case, therefore, ruling in favour of the EC.

The loyalty of a Liverpool fan in a 30 years wait for the Premier League Trophy.

0

If you are thinking about how long it took Liverpool to win the premier league title, then here is another nip for you.

A Liverpool fan has to wait 17 years for a haircut following a promise he made after the club failed on several attempts in winning the premier league.

His hair vow came after Steven Gerrard’s slip against Chelsea to hand the crown to Manchester City, despite Liverpool having led for much of that season.

“You never get over it, but you have to. That’s life, you have to move on.”

Uke Krasniqi is an educational assistant and a diehard Red fan from Kosovo but now lives in Vancouver.

Despite being urged several times to cut his long curly hair in between by friends and family he remained committed to the promise.

“I’ve been waiting for this moment and as long as it takes.

“I had a few disappointing moments but it seems that I’m finally there, it’s going to happen.”

Speaking to the Press, Uke Krasniqi said;

“Whenever I see Jordan Henderson lifting that trophy I will be cutting my hair and my wife Diana would be doing the honours.”

The 37-year-old has supported the Reds since childhood thanks to his father, who watched the club in the days of domestic dominance with Kenny Dalglish and Graeme Souness.

God forbid, no woman can come between 4×4 – Captain Planet

0

The leader of the popular Ghanaian music group 4X4, Captain Planet, has revealed that no woman can ever come between members of his group to collapse it.

According to him, the 4×4 group does not have time when it comes to dealing with women issues. He said the group as a whole does not even deal with such energies coming from women.

Speaking in an interview on Max TV’s Up Close Show, hosted by Oheneba Marshall, on Saturday 27th June ,2020 , Captain Planet, said “God forbid, we never had any woman issues in our group. When it comes to women issues forget it. We don’t even deal with such energy coming from a woman.”

“We started doing this solo projects because members found different businesses they were more into. As I am speaking to you now Fresh Prince is in the states. He is now working and trying to build his own family over there,” he added.

Responding to a question from Marshall on the state of the 4×4 group, he said “It’s only in Ghana that when artists start doing solo tracks then people take it to mean they broke up.  The group is still there, but at a point in time the group was not functioning because members of the group each found businesses they were doing. That is the reason why we started doing the solo project.”

“When people are side hustling and they still want to come together as a group then we step in the studio as a group to record something. But now the group is on hold for now. That is why you see us do all these solo projects. We feel like we have done it all, we are not going to be a group forever; we are not going to die as a group forever,” Captain Planet added.
