Berekum Chelsea CEO, Obed Nana Kwame Nketia says the Ghana Football Association’s late decision to cancel the Ghana Premier League is a huge loss to the clubs.
The FA took a decision on June 30, 2020, to cancel the 2019/20 football season after a hiatus due to COVID-19.
The experienced football administrator speaking to Max 89.7 FM said although the decision may be best at this point it came too late which will bring some form of financial difficulty on the clubs.
“Although the league has been cancelled it is just like no season has been played. So all the monies we spent are at our own cost. This decision should have been taken earlier so we prepare adequately, it came too late. If we have to pay some monies to certain players we have no option than do so”.
A statement from GFA concerning the cancellation said the decision was reached after an Executive Council meeting.
Meanwhile Kumasi Asante Kotoko and Ashanti Gold will represent Ghana at the CAF Champions League and the CAF Confederations Cup respectively.
