‎Ghana needs a new award scheme to honor Highlife music and dance— Bnoskka

Date:

The Creative Arts Business Development and Intellectual Property Consultant, Dr Benjamin Oduro Arhin Jr, popularly known as Bnoskka, has expressed the need for the country to hold a new awards scheme that will promote the Highlife music genre.

‎According to him, the country has to be intentional about the preservation of highlife music after the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) declared the genre the music and culture of the country.

‎Speaking exclusively on the Max Morning Show in Accra on Monday, Bnoskka expressed worry about how the country was losing its identity by embracing foreign genres like dancehall music, which was for the Jamaicans.

‎”In my opinion all our award schemes have their focus. There’s this adage that you can’t teach an old dog new tricks. You will talk about it, yet they will not listen, so to me we should start a new award scheme,” he added.

‎Bnoskka mentioned that the promotion of high life and culture was not only about music but about dance as well.

“We should organise Highlife music awards to award musicians, dancers, producers and songwriters, among others. This will make people understand that this is Ghana Highlife and Dance Awards,” he stressed.
