Playing football again is a gift – Lionel Messi confesses

0

Lionel Messi is eager to be back playing for Barcelona again this weekend after admitting the suspension of football “has made me think”.

LaLiga was halted in March due to the coronavirus pandemic, with Barca two points clear of Real Madrid at the top of the table after 27 games.

Spain’s top flight returned on Thursday behind closed doors as Sevilla defeated Real Betis 2-0, with the leaders set to resume their campaign at Real Mallorca on Saturday.

Messi has described football as “a gift” and is happy at the prospect of playing once more after three months of uncertainty.

“Being away from the game has made me think,” he said in an Adidas video.

“I feel like any other player. I just want to play. And to play our game is a gift. To be supported by so many, even more so.

“To be able to inspire others, and be inspired. And maybe the greatest gift of all: to create joy for others.

“So, now the game has returned, I’m ready for its gift again.”

Messi is the top scorer in LaLiga this season, with 19 goals from 22 appearances, five clear of nearest challenger Karim Benzema.

The 32-year-old also has the most assists, with 12, four ahead of Real Sociedad forward Portu.

The Argentina star is hoping to win his 11th league title with Barca and his 25th club trophy in total.

EC to media houses: Stop using logo introduced by Charlotte Osei

0

Expressing concerns about media houses’ continuous use of a logo which it discarded about two years ago, the Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana is asking the media to desist from using it when carrying their stories.

On Thursday, June 11, the EC issued a statement signed by Mrs. Sylvia Annoh, the Acting Director of Public Affairs on the issue.

In the statement, Mrs Sylvia Annoh said on Tuesday 4th December 2018, the Commission unanimously decided to revert to the original logo of the institution.

Despite the statement not pointing  to which particular old logo, it is obvious , since there are two old logos of the Commission, not forgetting the one introduced by the administration of Charlotte Osei which was later reverted to the first logo.

Hence, the EC may be referring to the old logo introduced by the Charlotte Osei EC-led administration with multiple colours.

The statement described the current logo of the Commission with an attached image of how the “original” one looks like to make clear the EC’s point.

“This comes to inform you that on Tuesday 4th December 2018, the Commission unanimously decided to revert to the original logo of the institution.

“The original logo reflects the Coat of Arms of Ghana with a ballot box at the centre. It also depicts a hand casting its vote.”

By this, the logo the Electoral Commission (EC) is asking the media to stop using was the controversial one introduced by the immediate past EC boss, Charlotte Osei.

Former GFA boss MND Jawula explains why the Black Stars failed to qualify for a WC under his tenure

0

Former Chairman of the Ghana Football Association Lepowura MND Jawula has explained why the Black Stars failed to qualify for a World Cup under his tenure.

Alhaji Jawula, who was chairman of the GFA between 1997 and 2001, said bad officiating was their bane.

“What I thought was that all the time we didn’t get the best of officiating, there was this particular game we played against Morocco, we needed a win to qualify, Abedi had dribbled the goalkeeper and was clear on goal and the referee whistled for an offside, these are things we couldn’t do anything about,” he told Class FM.

Ghana has so far qualified for three World Cups, namely the 2006 edition in Germany, 2010 in South Africa and 2014 in Brazil.

They missed out on the last edition in 2018 staged in Russia after a poor run of qualification.

Malik Jabir enthused with kotoko’s new board

0

The technical advisor for Asante Kotoko S.C, Mr. Malik Jabir, has said he is very happy about the new direction Manhyia Palace wants the club to go.

According to the former Ghana Black Stars striker, the burden of Kotoko can’t be handled by an individual person and that there are more hands needed to turn Kotoko into what it needs to be.

Mr. Malik Jabir said “I am very happy for it, very very happy for it because no single man can carry the burden of Kotoko, there need to be more hence the 9 .Which means they will find things very easy and then things will now turn out to be what kotoko needs.

Speaking to Nana Gyasi Darkwah, in a radio interview on Max FM’s Sportspack 1 show, Mr. Malik Jabir said ‘We have had so many board members, but the truth is that they only solved the day to day problems and affairs of the club. Tell me which club has ever thought of a project for kotoko? They did nothing but just spent and wasted money. Kotoko is still the same as we know from the past we must change.”

He added that “The new board has been given an assignment to complete in three years unlike the previous board which came in to just run the day to day activities of the club, let’s move from the day to day running of the club into a real club building.”

On Tuesday 9th June, 2020, a new nine-member Board of Directors of Asante Kotoko S/C, was officially inaugurated at a ceremony at the Sports Hotel, Kumasi, with an admonition to members to be committed to duty.

The Chief of Staff, Manhyia Palace, Mr. Kofi Badu, who represented the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, said the Board was expected to work assiduously to restructure the way things were done at the club.

The members are expected to work with unity of purpose, dedication, and resilience, focusing primarily on the job at hand for the sustainable growth and development of the two-time African champions.

The Dr. Kwame Kyei-led Board has the responsibility to rebuild the Kotoko brand not only for its performance on the sporting field, but as a viable economic entity.

Kotoko can be local champions but not Africa champions – Kojo Adae Mensah

0

Group chief executive of the Databank Group, Kojo Adae Mensah doubts how Asante Kotoko can do well in Africa after Manyhia names 9man board to emulate policies for the club for the next 3years.

The Enthusiastic Kotoko fan stated clearly, he is not happy with the direction of the club even though Manhyia has inaugurated the new board.

On Tuesday 9th June, 2020, Asantehene charged the newly formed board of Asante Kotoko to rebuild the Asante Kotoko Brand and make it an elite standard in Africa.

But Mr. Mensah believes there should be a proper plan and consistency that will make the club win laurels and be up there in terms of continental achievement.

“Truly speaking I am not happy, may be the establishment of the board is in line with the company’s act and the GFA regulations but to put the club up there in terms of achieving greatness in Africa I doubt. When you look at Asante Kotoko critically for the past 10years, there hasn’t been any proper planning with how the club must be run. We can be local champions by winning one or two trophies here in Ghana but to conquer Africa with the same mistakes being committed almost all the time by changing board year in and out can’t see the club win on the continent”, Mr. Mensah said in an interview on MAX FM in Accra.

Mr. Kojo Adae Mensah said  “he have not seen anything that has actually changed in Kotoko with regards to planning from Herbert Mensah’s time in 1999 till now.”

The Board will be chaired by Bussiness man Dr. Kwame Kyei, Chairman of Unity Group of Companies. Mr. Jude Arthur, Board Chairman, GCB Bank will be the Vice-Chairman.

Other members of the Board include Mr. Kwadwo Boateng Gyamfi, Board Chairman, Exim Bank, Mr. Kwasi Osei Fori, Chief Executive Officer, Edmark Group/Rockshore Mining Limited, Kwabena Mensah, Corporate Lawyer, Joseph Yaw Addo, former Director of Sports, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Baffour Kwame Kusi, Ankobeahene, Mrs. Evelyn Nsiah Asare, Director of Sports, Sunyani Technical University, and Alhaji Abu Lamin, Bussiness man.

The board was also urged to ensure that the team get their own facilities including a stadium within their three three-year mandate.

The board has also been assigned not to sign any player for one season.

Albert Commey: Anas’ Number 12 gave us opportunity to sanitize our game

0
The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Techiman Eleven Wonders, Albert Commey, has said that the expose’ by Anas has brought a lot of benefits to football in Ghana and has presented an  opportunity to sanitize the game .

Albert Commey indicated that the expose’ by Anas revealed a lot of mishaps that was going on in football and influenced the officiating of football by referees after the normalization committee completed its work and handed over to the GFA .

Speaking in a radio interview  with Nana Gyasi Darkwah on Max FM’s Sportspack 1 show, on Tuesday , 9th June 2020, football administrator Albert Commey indicated that the Number 12 expose’ by Anas has given the country an opportunity to sanitize the game of football.

Throwing more light on the effect of Anas’ Number 12 on football officiating, he said “Anas’ expose’ brought out issues of football that were not known to the public but were actually affecting the game negatively due to a lack of vigilance.”

He further said “Even after the work done by the normalization committee, I realized a lot of them (referees) did not pick any lessons from the committee’s recommendations and did not put a stop to the vices.”

“But, this year when we started the league we noticed that there was a difference. This improvement in officiating of football was as a result of sanctions put in place to evict or remove anyone from the game completely when found guilty,” Albert Commey added.
