Kotoko can be local champions but not Africa champions – Kojo Adae Mensah

Date:

Group chief executive of the Databank Group, Kojo Adae Mensah doubts how Asante Kotoko can do well in Africa after Manyhia names 9man board to emulate policies for the club for the next 3years.

The Enthusiastic Kotoko fan stated clearly, he is not happy with the direction of the club even though Manhyia has inaugurated the new board.

On Tuesday 9th June, 2020, Asantehene charged the newly formed board of Asante Kotoko to rebuild the Asante Kotoko Brand and make it an elite standard in Africa.

But Mr. Mensah believes there should be a proper plan and consistency that will make the club win laurels and be up there in terms of continental achievement.

“Truly speaking I am not happy, may be the establishment of the board is in line with the company’s act and the GFA regulations but to put the club up there in terms of achieving greatness in Africa I doubt. When you look at Asante Kotoko critically for the past 10years, there hasn’t been any proper planning with how the club must be run. We can be local champions by winning one or two trophies here in Ghana but to conquer Africa with the same mistakes being committed almost all the time by changing board year in and out can’t see the club win on the continent”, Mr. Mensah said in an interview on MAX FM in Accra.

Mr. Kojo Adae Mensah said  “he have not seen anything that has actually changed in Kotoko with regards to planning from Herbert Mensah’s time in 1999 till now.”

The Board will be chaired by Bussiness man Dr. Kwame Kyei, Chairman of Unity Group of Companies. Mr. Jude Arthur, Board Chairman, GCB Bank will be the Vice-Chairman.

Other members of the Board include Mr. Kwadwo Boateng Gyamfi, Board Chairman, Exim Bank, Mr. Kwasi Osei Fori, Chief Executive Officer, Edmark Group/Rockshore Mining Limited, Kwabena Mensah, Corporate Lawyer, Joseph Yaw Addo, former Director of Sports, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Baffour Kwame Kusi, Ankobeahene, Mrs. Evelyn Nsiah Asare, Director of Sports, Sunyani Technical University, and Alhaji Abu Lamin, Bussiness man.

The board was also urged to ensure that the team get their own facilities including a stadium within their three three-year mandate.

The board has also been assigned not to sign any player for one season.
