Former Chairman of the Ghana Football Association Lepowura MND Jawula has explained why the Black Stars failed to qualify for a World Cup under his tenure.

Alhaji Jawula, who was chairman of the GFA between 1997 and 2001, said bad officiating was their bane.

“What I thought was that all the time we didn’t get the best of officiating, there was this particular game we played against Morocco, we needed a win to qualify, Abedi had dribbled the goalkeeper and was clear on goal and the referee whistled for an offside, these are things we couldn’t do anything about,” he told Class FM.

Ghana has so far qualified for three World Cups, namely the 2006 edition in Germany, 2010 in South Africa and 2014 in Brazil.

They missed out on the last edition in 2018 staged in Russia after a poor run of qualification.
