Music is not a getaway – Wutah Kobby

0

Ghanaian artiste Wutah Kobby has said music is not a getaway. According to him, music is a career on its own and it is not something that you should just fall on when you try your hands at things and they don’t work.

Speaking to Heavy Dee in an interview on Keteke on Max 89.7 FM, Wutah Kobby said “So about the changes in music. Back in the days there use to be music being taught in schools. Now it’s no more being taught. It is no more taken as a priority. So people are experimenting which is good but they are swaying off the real knowledge of music and then some of the changes are as a result people not going through training.”

Known in real life as Daniel Morris Nyarko, Wutah Kobby emphasized that because people don’t go through a process and they struggle to become who they are today musically and they assume that everyone is supposed to go through that same hustle.

Wutah Kobby said “because people don’t go through a process and they struggle to become who they are today musically, they think that everyone is supposed to go through that same hustle and because of that people are not seeing music as a career, but like a get when they try something and it doesn’t work then music is the next thing.”

He further said “No disrespect to my street boys but it is not like when you try something and it doesn’t work or when you make money small nor then you think music is the next thing you have to do. Listen meennn, you guys are messing up our thing. It is not a getaway. Music has had its values and it will never change.

IGP to Parliament: We’re ready for December polls

0

Mr James Oppong-Boanuh, the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) , has outlined measures the security agencies are putting in place to ensure violence-free elections this year.

According to the IGP, the Police have adequately prepared for unexpected occurrences before, during and after the December polls.

Mr Oppong-Boanuh, addressing Parliament on Thursday, 5 November 2020, indicated that the Police has enhanced its operations in the area of deployment.

He indicated that there are several hotspots that they will be targeting.

The IGP added that judging from the disturbances that occurred in some areas during the voter registration exercise, the identified hotspots have been “adequately catered for”.

Mr Oppong-Boanuh noted that the deployment will consist of personnel at the polling stations and centres to assist the presiding officers, mobile patrols and proactive deployment forces to attend to volatile public order situations and other emergencies, adding that some security personnel will be on standby.

“Mr Speaker, we intend printing what we call an aid memoir. That is best practice in the modern world for officers on operations like this,” he said.

He intimated that the memoir, serving as a reference, will contain “the do’s and don’ts for the security officers who will be deployed so that when they are in doubt, they can remove the paper from their pockets and look at it to refresh their memory.”

He reiterated the Police’s preparedness, adding that, “We’re not just sitting down and waiting for election day to come and then we get there and we don’t know what to do. As a result, therefore, we have had some training and capacity-building for our officers.

“For instance, we’ve had high-risk operation and confidence building for regional operational teams for our special weapon and tactics and rapid deployment forces. We’ve also had the counter-terrorism and emergency operations training for our counter-terrorism unit. That is for the police…”

He continued: “Mr, Speaker we have also had a nationwide investigation and prosecution of electoral offences training for all our officers and this, we did in collaboration with the Attorney-General’s Department and the Judicial Service.”

He also said that to equip the security agencies, officers from the various security agencies took an Election Violence and Security course at the Kofi Annan Peacekeeping Training Center (KAIPTC).

Covid-19 is real but not in Ghana, I haven’t seen any yet – Osofo Kyiri Abosom

0

The Flagbearer of the Ghana Union Movement (GUM), Reverend Christian Kwabena Andrews, popularly known as Osofo Kyiri Abosom has said that covid-19 is real. However, he believes that there is no Covid-19 in Ghana.

Speaking to Yaw Ampofo Ankrah, host of Sports Drive on Max 89.7 FM, on Wednesday ,4th November, 2020, Osofo Kyiri Abosom said “In actual sense when you look at the situation in our country, me I know this very Covid-19 is not part of us. I don’t believe it is here. Covid-19 is not in Ghana. I have not seen it in Ghana.”

Osofo Kyiri Abosom further said “If you look at those people who have been killed by malaria, cholera and other killer diseases, you can’t compare Covid-19 to it.”

As flagbearer of GUM, Rev Andrews indicated that “We have been coughing long time ago before Covid-19 came. People have been coughing every day and nothing seems to happen. This people have been telling us that there is something called Covid-19. Me I know it belongs to them, they should take it but it’s not our part here, we Africans here especially in Ghana. We just decided to back this thing and go for a loan to bring debt on us.”

“We can even use that loan to build factories for our country and this very youth can be employed. Because all this covid-19 that we started testing for what did we gain out of it, “He added.

WhatsApp lets messages vanish after seven days

0

WhatsApp is introducing a “disappearing messages” option that will erase chats from the phone of both the sender and recipient after seven days.

The Facebook-owned app, which has two billion users worldwide, said the setting would help keep chats private.

But it said recipients would still be able to screenshot or forward any messages, photos or videos that they wanted to keep.

The option will appear for WhatsApp users by the end of November.

In a blog, the company said messages could be set to expire after seven days to offer “peace of mind that conversations aren’t permanent, while remaining practical so you don’t forget what you were chatting about”.

In April 2019, Facebook chief executive Mark Zuckerberg pledged to make several changes to the social network to offer users more privacy.

One of his proposed changes was offering more “ephemeral” ways to share content, including disappearing messages.

The company also hopes to integrate its messaging platforms, making WhatsApp, Instagram and Facebook Messenger interoperable.

Rival messaging app Snapchat, which has provided inspiration for a number of Facebook’s features, was built on the principle of disappearing messages.

“Remarkable that this was so long in coming to WhatsApp, given that it launched Status (also a disappearing feature) back in 2017, that ephemeral is huge, and that this is Facebook we are talking about,” said Ingrid Lunden, a journalist for Tech Crunch, on Twitter.

Naana Jane: Collect monies they share and chop but vote NDC

0

Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, the Vice Presidential Candidate for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has asked Ghanaians to be discerning enough to realise vote-buying tactics of politicians.

Though she isn’t against people taking their monies, Naana Jane believes their final voting decisions should not be influenced by monies distributed by some of these persons.

For four years Naana Jane said, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for instance has had the opportunity to effect change in the country but have done very little to prove themselves.

The Vice Presidential Candidate for the NDC said this while addressing a crowd in the Oti region.

She said “I tell you that those who are going around giving you money are engaging in vote-buying. But you’ve to ask yourselves if the monies they’re giving you today can address the challenges you’re facing. Ask yourselves where these people have been for the past four years when your roads are bad, when you don’t get buyers for your farm products because of the hardship in the system”.

“Take the monies and chop but when you get to the ballot box on December 7, go and vote for a party that has done all these before, choose a man who has respect for all and vote for the NDC for the future of Ghana and that of your children who cannot make that choice now,” she added.

According to Prof. Jane Naana Opoku Agyemang, the NDC has released its manifesto and that caters for all in the country’s economy and will deal thoroughly with the issues bothering the people.

“We have presented to you a manifesto that is very inclusive and represents the interest of all manner of persons in Ghana. Our manifestos would address issues that affect the ordinary Ghanaian; the fisherman, the farmer, the Okada man, the nurse, the police, the teacher and even children who do not have a vote at this moment.”

Kweku Baako: Akufo-Addo will be retained after Election 2020

0

Abdul Malik Kweku Baako Jnr., the Managing Editor of the Crusading Guide newspaper, has looked into his crystal ball once again and predicted victory for President Akufo-Addo in the forthcoming December 7 election.

The Electoral Commission (EC) has cleared 12 presidential aspirants to contest this year’s election and balloting has already been done.

The two major political parties in the country; the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) took the 1st and 2nd positions respectively.

Meanwhile, all 12 political parties are confident of emerging winners on December 7.

Kweku Baako Jnr, speaking on an Accra-based FM station, said: “Generally, the 2020 election will end well; the EC will declare the winner both parliamentary and presidential and looking inside the crystal ball, Akufo-Addo will be retained ”

Virologist: Be concerned about possible 2nd wave of Covid-19 in Ghana

0

According to the Ghana Health Service (GHS) there is the possibility of Ghana experiencing a second wave of the Covid-19 pandemic which may be worse of than the first wave.

This warning has been disputed by some specialists who claim the current spike in Covid-19 cases is because the country is now experiencing the peak phase of the first wave.

However, Dr Michael Owusu, a Virologist at the Kumasi Center for Collaborative Research(KCCR), has said “It’s difficult to tell whether or not we might experience a second wave because we can’t predict how the terrain in Africa will look like” but it still should be a cause for concern because of how little we are testing.

He made this known on an Accra-based TV station in Ghana.

Dr Michael Owusu, comparing Ghana to other European countries, said it will be quite difficult to detect whether or not we as a country have reached our peak of the pandemic.

He also said,” based on research and comparison amongst other African countries, Kenya seems to be getting to their second wave because by the 30th of October 2020, they had recorded 1,395 cases and even now hospitals are still reporting an increase with severe cases”.

He stated that if the precautionary measures aren’t taken seriously, then it is possible for us to face a second wave.

He gave the following as indicators to look out for to determine if a country is experiencing the second wave.

These are:

  1. Number of active case counts compared to previously
  2. New daily infection
  3. Finally, reproduction number

He then added, “I can’t tell when but we have to be very careful and follow through the protocols”.
