Dr Okoe-Boye: 6 cases recorded at Kotoka International Airport

0

A Deputy Minister for Health, Dr Bernard Okoe-Boye, has indicated that Ghana has recorded six new Coronavirus cases at the Kotoka International Airport since the country reopened her airport on September 1.

President Akufo-Addo, in his last televised address on the pandemic, announced that the international airports will be reopened while the other borders remain closed.

Dr Oko-Boye, giving details of the airport situation, explained that the first case was recorded on Friday, two cases on Saturday and three cases on Sunday.

According to him, the individuals involved had reported with a negative PCR test from their country of origin as the president directed in his 16th televised address to the nation but tested positive after a second test was conducted in the country.

International travellers are required to pay US$150 for a COVID-19 antigen test at the airport.

“All our troubles in Ghana started with just about four or five cases. So, really those who are talking about $150, if we had gone for a compromised technology and those with negative PCR tests had slipped in, all we need is one gentleman who is positive with a viral load that is huge, visits us in this country and we are back to a lockdown,” Dr Okoe-Boy said.

The Government of Ghana had directed that travellers take a PCR test 72 hours before arriving at the Accra airport. They are also to pay $150 for an antigen test upon arrival.

Dr Okoe-Boye has been defending why Ghana is charging the US$150 whilst sister African nations are charging about US$10 or US$15.

“I always say that the alternative, that is, having one person slip in with the virus, is so serious, too grave to contemplate. Remember that we didn’t go in for the product and the price, smiling and all excited,” he said.

He added: “When KLM arrived at the airport, on September 1, they were supposed to use the previous arrangement which was two weeks quarantine.” All of them had paid for hotel bills but guess what, there were fifty passengers who offered to pay $150 because they had negative PCR tests. For them, time is too expensive to spend two weeks in a hotel watching TV.”

Enforcement of Club Licensing Statutes is the only thing that can save Ghana football – Dr Kofi Amoah

0

The president of the Normalization Committee, Dr Kofi Amoah has said he is unhappy with how clubs have gotten away with not meeting the demands of the club licensing policy.

According to Dr Kofi Amoah, Football is run by laws and regulations and we refused to accept that as a country. That is why Ghana football is lagging behind and going no where.

He stressed that it is clear in the club licensing statutes that to get a license to operate a football club, you must have all the necessary structures in place. However, none of that is happening.

In an exclusive interview with Nana Darkwah Gyasi on Max 89.7 FM’s SportsPack 1, Dr Kofi Amoah said “Club licensing is the fundamental thing we must deal with and find a way to get around that, to get all the clubs strong, financially strong, playing the players well, having good coaches and good administrators.”

He added “When you do that and you know in football a football player or club can’t play a competition by themselves. So you need a certain number of football players and football clubs to make it work.”

According to Dr Amoah, he has fears that Ghana Football might not go far because if we don’t deal with it and repeat the past mistakes we will not go anywhere. Licensing is like tayt in every endeavor.

He said “If our football club are not prepared and willing to do the fundamentals to provide the money and others. It means they are not ready to own a Football Club’.

He further stressed that “If it takes $500,000 or $205,000 to properly structure a football club to make and you don’t have that then don’t go there.”

According to him, the facilities are not there, the administrative structures are not there and the capacity to run a football club properly are not there and we continue to go on. If we want Ghana football to rise, we must understand that the laws and regulations of the FA are there for a purpose.

“This must become clear to us because we have the talents here, Micheal Essien started here, look at what happened, he made it to the top of the world. Sammy Kuffour and others like him by the time they get there the structures and everything is there so their talents and handwork takes them to the top,” Dr Kofi Amoah added.

CAS dismisses Palmer’s case , Kurt Okraku to stay as GFA President .

The decision of the GFA Elections Committee to disqualify Wilfred Kweku Osei, affectionately called Osei Palmer from the 2019 GFA Election is valid, according to the ruling by the Court of Arbitration for Sports (CAS).

Based on the turn out of events, Kurt Okraku will be staying on as the FA President with no re-election ordered.

After several postponements, CAS on Wednesday morning delivered the verdict which is likely to bring finality to a long protracted legal process.

The legitimacy of the current leadership of the FA was contested by Osei Palmer at the Court of Arbitration for Sports.

Found guilty of breaking GFA codes, Osei Palmer was thus prevented from contesting the elections that saw the arrival of Kurt Okraku and eleven other Executive Council members.

The verdict means unless some monumental happens, Palmer may not be able to stand for any future election in the future.

Ebo Appiah, spokesperson of Osei Palmer, in an interview with an Accra-based FM station ,  admitted receiving the verdict from CAS. He said despite the disappointment they are ready to assist the current administration going forward.

“Palmer is calm and he is a sportsman who knows that you will either win or lose. He is calm and not down.” Ebo said.

26th GFA Ordinary Congress ends successfully in Prampram (Summary)

0

The 26th Ordinary Congress of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), brought together all key stakeholders to deliberate on the most pressing issues currently affecting Ghana football.

The choice of gathering outside the capital in the coastal town of Prampram, was significant for many reasons.

Not least because the venue is supposed to be the centre of football excellence in the county – and aptly named the Ghanaman Centre of Excellence.

Additionally, the centre has served as a training camp and home to every national football team over the years.

Due to the full compliance of Covid-19 Health & Safety protocols, the Congress was truncated to be completed within 3 hours; which was adhered to.

The Youth & Sports Minister Hon Isaac Asiamah, Director Gen of the National Sports Authority Prof Peter Twumasi , Ghana League Clubs Chairman Kudjoe Fianoo as well as other sports functionaries were present at the well attended Congress.

Among priority issues tabled and discussed; Budget and projected expenditure for the 2020/2021 football season, allocations for the various leagues, regional Football Administrations known as the RFA’s and the distribution of various support allocated from Caf, Fifa and sponsorship funds.

The President of the FA explained the rationale behind reduction of Puma sponsorship fee due to Covid-19 by the kit manufacturer.

After shorter than expected budget review and open floor session, Congress unanimously approved the work programme and budget for the 2020/21 financial year.

The budget is for the period between 1st July, 2020 – 30 June, 2021.

Also, Congress unanimously voted for the ratification of the October 26, 2019 to June 30, 2020, GFA budget.

Several stakeholders spoke to Max FM and Max TV on a number of issues.

Football in Ghana has been nonexistent since mid-March due to the coronavirus outbreak.

The FA, over the past five months, has in several proposals to the government detailed returning plans for the game.

However, their plans have not met the expectations of government as president Akufo-Addo is yet to give clearance for the return of the sport.

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, in his latest address on Sunday, promised to give football clearance in the shortest possible time.

““Everybody knows I love football and the suspension has also affected me but it will be back very soon”.

“I don’t want to do anything that will hurt Ghanaians. I believe in one step at a time so gradually football will be back,” he noted.

Kurt Okraku, speaking at the 26th Ordinary Congress of the association, vowed to ensure the return of the game.

He promised his members that the FA will not relent in its effort for the resumption of the game.

Speaking to the stakeholders, Kurt Okraku said that he shares in their pain and frustration and asked them to have faith in the him and the Executive Council to bring the game back.

He underscored the importance of football as a unifier and said when football resumes, it will help bring Ghana together.

“I am sure you heard the President and colleagues let me say that our football is coming back. It will unite us more than ever. Insha Allah it is coming back”.

“Thank you and I salute you all”, he concluded.

The Sports Minister, Isaac Asiamah, who also addressed the Congress reiterated Akufo-Addo’s statement and assured them of a return soon.

Isaac Asiamah lavished praises on Kurt Okraku for steering the GFA from the stormy clouds of the Number12 investigative documentary.

Hearts wrong to allow Esso leave – Fiamenyo

0

Former Hearts of Oak striker Gilbert Fiamenyo has said that it was wrong for Hearts of Oak to allow Joseph Esso to leave the club.

Esso, who is now with Dreams FC, could not negotiate a new deal with the club and had to leave.

Fiamenyo, who was on Max FM’s SportsBiz, said the club should have done everything possible to tie him down.

“I don’t know why Hearts allowed the Esso to leave. He is a very talented player, such guys you don’t allow them leave easily, you do your best to make them stay but well it is better he even joined Dreams and not Kotoko”

Esso and Hearts were in a long negotiation period but both could not agree on a new deal.

Fans of the club have voiced their displeasure over the move to allow the player leave the club for free.

Esso who was signed from Dwarfs by Hearts of Oak was one of their most prized asset but will be playing for Dreams FC in the upcoming season.

Charles Owusu: Akufo-Addo has widened the gap ‘tempting’ others to make outrageous promises

0

Charles Owusu, the Head of Monitoring Unit at the Forestry Commission, has ridiculed former President and NDC flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama over his promises to Ghanaians.

Former President John Mahama is counting on the votes of Ghanaians during the general elections to become President of Ghana again.

In his bid to come back to power, the former President has given a catalogue of promises to Ghanaians and among some things he’s pleged to do are to legalize commercial motocycle business, known in local parlance as ”okada”, improve health infrastructure and also review the government’s free education policy by making it better for school children, their parents and families.

These are but a few things that former President John Mahama has said while the nation waits on his party, the National Democratic Congress (NDC), to unveil their 2020 manifesto.

Meanwhile, the okada legalization promise by Mr. Mahama has been met with a barrage of objections because, when he was President of Ghana, he wanted to shut down okada business.

Mr. Mahama is however unperturbed by the dissenting views as he continues to give new campaign promises.

Speaking to host Kwami Sefa Kayi on Peace FM’s ‘Kokrokoo’, Charles Owusu said President Nana Akufo-Addo has done all that his political opponents, in this case referring to the former President, couldn’t do and additionally doing other great things to improve the living conditions of Ghanaians.

Alluding to the government’s free water and subsidized electricity supplies to Ghanaians for six months, the first rolled out during the lockdown season from April to June and the second phase beginning in July, he believed the President’s remarkable feat is creating headache for Mr. Mahama and the NDC.

According to him, the President has widened the gap between him and the former President, therefore causing the latter to making outrageous and annoying promises.

“Why do you want to take people on a race like that?” he jovially asked President Akufo-Addo.
