26th GFA Ordinary Congress ends successfully in Prampram (Summary)

Date:

The 26th Ordinary Congress of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), brought together all key stakeholders to deliberate on the most pressing issues currently affecting Ghana football.

The choice of gathering outside the capital in the coastal town of Prampram, was significant for many reasons.

Not least because the venue is supposed to be the centre of football excellence in the county – and aptly named the Ghanaman Centre of Excellence.

Additionally, the centre has served as a training camp and home to every national football team over the years.

Due to the full compliance of Covid-19 Health & Safety protocols, the Congress was truncated to be completed within 3 hours; which was adhered to.

The Youth & Sports Minister Hon Isaac Asiamah, Director Gen of the National Sports Authority Prof Peter Twumasi , Ghana League Clubs Chairman Kudjoe Fianoo as well as other sports functionaries were present at the well attended Congress.

Among priority issues tabled and discussed; Budget and projected expenditure for the 2020/2021 football season, allocations for the various leagues, regional Football Administrations known as the RFA’s and the distribution of various support allocated from Caf, Fifa and sponsorship funds.

The President of the FA explained the rationale behind reduction of Puma sponsorship fee due to Covid-19 by the kit manufacturer.

After shorter than expected budget review and open floor session, Congress unanimously approved the work programme and budget for the 2020/21 financial year.

The budget is for the period between 1st July, 2020 – 30 June, 2021.

Also, Congress unanimously voted for the ratification of the October 26, 2019 to June 30, 2020, GFA budget.

Several stakeholders spoke to Max FM and Max TV on a number of issues.
