Award winning Gospel singer, Philipa Baafi has expressed worry about the rise in streaming and downloading platforms destroying musical business in the country.
According to her, the digital revolution has led many musicians to abandon the selling of Compact Discs (CDs) and pendrive, hence destroying the income of musical producers.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with Max Drive in Accra on Wednesday, the “I Go Dance” hitmaker indicated that producers gain their money from the traditional sale of CDs and Pendrive but the digital revolution has led many production businesses to collapse.
”The streaming and downloading platforms don’t even accumulate enough revenue for musicians. If you rely on it, you will not even go anywhere because the money can’t even cover the amount wasted on the production of the song. This has made many producers redirect their attention to other profitable business ventures,” she said.
Philipa Baafi insisted that streaming and downloading platforms had destroyed the music business and underscored the need for musicians to create profitable avenues by attaching the selling of CDs and Pendrive.
”It’s about time musicians have to return to the selling of CDs and Pendrive. We have to strengthen the new digital opportunities by adding the selling of our CDs to make money from our job. We don’t have to abandon the selling of CDs and Pendrive,” she added.
