Former Premier League defenders have called for Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso to drop goalkeeper Robert Sanchez.
The Spaniard shot-stopper has been blamed by many football fans and experts for the Blues conceding 2 goals against Fulham.
Xabi Alonso’s first official game as manager for Chelsea in their Premier League opener on Monday evening ended in a 3-2 win for his side.
The former Real Madrid manager went toe-to-toe with his successor at the Spanish giants, Alvaro Arbeloa, away at Craven Cottage.
Joao Pedro scored the fastest goal of the season so far in 36 seconds before Josh King bagged the equaliser, which should’ve been easily prevented by Sanchez.
Big money signing Morgan Rodgers regained the lead for Chelsea on his debut. Cole Palmer showed what the fans had missed— his ice cold performance, as he scored Chelsea’s third.
Once again, Robert Sanchez was at fault as new Fulham striker Gonzalo Garcia reduced the deficit.
Speaking after the game, Gary Neville shared his candid opinion about Sanchez, claiming the Blues would struggle with the Spaniard in goal.
“The reality of it is, Chelsea do need a new goalkeeper and it’s one thing I’m surprised they haven’t dealt with in this transfer window… that’s the last piece.”
