COPEC, CUTS International Back 20% Transport Fare Increment

Date:

The Chamber of Petroleum Consumers (COPEC) and the West Africa branch of CUTS International have both thrown out the 20 percent transport fare increment.

COPEC Executive Secretary Duncan Amoah noted the rising fuel prices and operational costs as major contributors to the increment.

The increment, which takes effect from Tuesday, June 2, 2026, will cover intracity bus (trotro) services, intercity travel, and shared taxis.

Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) and the Commercial Transport Operators of Ghana’s decision to increase fares will, in no doubt, have an effect on the sale of goods and services.

Transport fare hikes often bring a certain level of frustration and difficulty to the lives of average Ghanaians and their households, who heavily depend on public buses and taxis for their commuting.
