I was once broke— Davido, son of a billionaire

Date:

Global Afrobeat icon David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has revealed that he was broke at the early stages of his career despite his wealthy background.

Speaking in his recent appearance on a Podcast, the billionaire’s son disclosed that his debut single, ‘Back When,’ where he rapped about being financially bankrupt and being rejected, was inspired by his real-life experience.

Davido explained that he struggled financially after rebelling against his billionaire dad, Deji Adeleke, who wanted him to pursue education instead of music, by absconding from home.

“My song ‘Back When’ was inspired by a true experience. There was a time I was broke. I had rich friends with rich parents who lived in mansions in Ikoyi with police escorts. But I had no money,” he expressed.
