Ghana Premier League: Aduana drop points after Bechem draw

0

Aduana Stars dropped points in their matchday game against Bechem United in the Ghana Premier League game.

The Fire Boys started their Matchday 3 encounter against Bechem United superbly as they created several openings to go ahead.

Coach Paa Kwesi Fabin’s men however failed to make their dominance count on the score sheet as the first half finished goalless.

Aduana Stars were clearly missing injured star striker Yahaya Mohammed in the game.

Bechem returned from the break with the same determination which frustrated the hosts.

The hosts pushed more men forward as they went in search of the winner but the steady defence of Bechem United stood to the test as they left the Nana Agyemang Badu II Park with a point.

The result has moved Aduana Stars to 13th place with 2 points from two games whilst Bechem United jump to 3rd with 5 points.

Ghana Premier League: Gyan marks Legon Cities debut as they draw with Medeama

0

Ghana’s all time leading scorer Asamoah Gyan marked his Legon Cities debut against Medeama SC.

The Matchday 3 fixture of the Ghana Premier saw both teams go head to head at the Accra Sports Stadium.

Both teams kept possession well in the first half but were unable to break the deadline.

After about 70 minute, Legon Cities who recently appointed Bashiru Hayford as their coach introduced Asamoah Gyan into the game.

Though Gyan looked a bit rusty, he showed glimpses of why the Royals decided to add him to their ranks.

He was neat and tidy on the ball and with a few games under his belt he will recover his sharpness.

The game however ended in 0-0 and Legon Cities are still searching for their first win of the season after investing heavily in the transfer market.

Ghana Premier League: Hans Kwofie breaks Phobia hearts with late equalizer

0

Accra Hearts of Oak played their first game of the 2020/21 Ghana Premier League season against Ashantigold SC at the Accra Sports Stadium.

Hearts were in high spirit going into the game after Ashantigold had dropped points against Karela in Matchday 1.

The Phobians begun on the front foot and dominated play.

That dominance paid off in the 32nd minute when Kojo Obeng Jr capitalized on an error to make it 1-0 to Hearts.

They held onto the lead till halftime.

After the recess, Hans Kwofie drew Ashgold level with a sumptuous strike in the 56th minute.

Hearts thought they had stolen the game in the 84th minute when Kojo Obeng Jr connected well with a Patrick Razak cross to make it 2-1.

Hans Kwofie had other ideas and in the dying embers of the game he scored to make it 2-2.

Hearts will face Inter Allies in Matchday 3 and Ashgold will play King Faisal.

Dr. Bawumia: Visionary President Akufo-Addo understands the plight of the north

0

Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has said that though President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo is not a northerner, he understands the plight of the people from the area.

Dr. Bawumia indicated that it is the reason he has implemented various pro-poor policies and programmes among other interventions aimed at lifting them from poverty.

According to Dr. Bawumia, poverty was a major challenge to education in the country as most parents were unable to pay the fees of their wards. This, he argued, compelled them to cut short their dream of higher education.

In view of this, the government of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo introduced the free Senior High School (SHS) to ensure that no child who is qualified to access secondary school education is denied the opportunity.

“1.2 million students in Ghana are enjoying free education, feeding and books. President Akufo-Addo understands the plight of the north and that is how come we are the biggest beneficiaries of Free SHS. He has also introduced policies that will help us and lift us out of poverty. Our own brother Mahama said it was not possible but Akufo-Addo has done it.

“Even in his era, chalk in school was a problem. We brought in Nana Akufo-Addo and there is a great difference in their performance of Nana Akufo-Addo and Mahama. He is creating jobs as we go on and the free SHS most important social intervention since independence”, he disclosed at Bimbilla in the Northern Region.

He explained that the motive for the free SHS is to provide equal opportunities for all students.

“We don’t want brilliant students to stay home and not enter the university. There is unprecedented development in Bimbilla within 4 years and he is number one on the ballot because God put him in number 1,” he said.

John Mahama: I’ll revive the financial sector to create jobs

0

John Dramani Mahama, the presidential candidate of the main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), has promised to revive collapsed financial institutions in the country in order to create jobs if the NDC wins the upcoming 7 December polls.

Therefore, Mr Mahama has urged Ghanaians to vote for the NDC in the upcoming polls to ensure the delivery of his promises.

Speaking at a rally in the Builsa North Constituency in the Upper East Region on Tuesday, November 24, 2020, Mr Mahama said bemoaned the number of collapsed indigenous financial institutions under the Akufo-Addo-led government.

The NDC Presidential Candidate said: “Don’t destroy the existing jobs that are there…Today, more than 10,000 people are sitting at home. All those who were working in GN Bank, they are at home. All those who were working in UniBank, they are at home. All those who were working in UT Bank, they are at home. All those who were working in Royal Bank, they are at home. All those who were working in Heritage Bank, they are at home. Construction Bank, home.

“Twenty-seven savings and loans companies— home. Three hundred and fifty-six microfinance companies— home. That is why I say when John Mahama becomes President again, we are going to revive and re-create the investments of Ghanaians in the finance sector so that those sitting at home can get jobs to do again.”

He further condemned the government for rendering Ghanaians jobless and indicated that it can only boast of the Nation Builders Corps as the only jobs created under Akufo-Addo.

Mr Mahama added: “All those who were working with construction companies, they are home because when the new government came, they said: ‘everybody, stop work.’ And they stopped work. Up to now, there are contractors who did work in 2016 and the government has refused to pay them. And so, their equipment are parked; their workers are all at home. The only place you can point and say they have created any jobs is NABCO. But NABCO— GHS700 a month to those young people. Those young people don’t want artificial jobs; they want real jobs. And that’s why NDC has said that when we win, those NABCO graduates, we’ll graduate them so that they can also get permanent jobs to do.”

Dr Bawumia: GH¢21 billion spent to clean up the financial sector

0

Vice-President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has said that the government has spent GH¢21billion to clean up the financial sector.

According to Dr. Bawumia, 99 percent of depositors of the affected banks, microfinance and savings and loans companies had been fully settled.

Vice-President Dr. Bawumia was speaking at the 12th Edition of the Nation Building Updates at the Cedi Conference Centre, Department of Economics, University of Ghana.

The event was on the theme, “Future of Ghana’s Economy”.

He added that the government on compassionate grounds had decided to pay up to GH¢50,000 to all customers of affected Fund Management Companies while the liquidation processes continued.

Dr Bawumia informed that based on the validated claims, the partial bailout would result in 89 percent of the affected individuals being fully settled.

He said the relatively strong performance of the economy, among other things, led to Ghana becoming the destination of choice for Foreign Direct Investments (FDI) in West Africa, according to the 2019 World Investment Report by UNCTAD.

Dr. Bawumia said the strong economy built by the Government had provided space and ability to provide the basic needs for people, both as part of a broad, inclusive, transformational development strategy and also to withstand crises like COVID-19.

“The shock of COVID-19 notwithstanding, the economy is bouncing back,” he added.

The Vice-President said the government’s economic transformation agenda was on course.

However, he added, in the next four years the government would build on the successes of their “One District, One Factory” and “Strategic Anchor Industries” policies to further enhance agro-processing.

He said government would also enhance cocoa processing, add value to minerals and petrochemicals, promote labour-intensive and light manufacturing activities.

“We will continue the development of the Aluminium, Iron and Steel industries along their entire value chains through GIADEC and GIISDEC, and leverage our Regional Hub status and as hosts for the Secretariat of the AfCFTA to expand our access to regional and continental markets,” he said.

The Vice-President said those things were not happening in a vacuum, and more importantly, they did not happen by accident.

He said rather it came from their overarching strategy to transform the structure of the economy to add value to the country’s agricultural and natural resources as well as careful planning and execution.

He said the Akufo-Addo led government was also building the foundations for industrial development to ensure sustainable, long-term economic growth as well as create jobs.

Highest number of people who listen to my music come from New Zealand and Australia – KiDi

0

Lynx Entertainment signed artiste, KiDi, has indicated that the digital space has had a positive impact on his music. He said this has enabled his music to go beyond the shores of Ghana.

According to KiDi, the highest number of people that normally stream and listen to his music the most are not even Ghanaians.

Speaking in an interview on the Max Morning Show on Max TV, KiDi said “In 2018, could you believe that the people in the whole world that listen to my songs the most weren’t even Ghanaians.”

The “Say Cheese” hit maker indicated that the highest number of people who listen to his music come from New Zealand and Australia.

“Yea, there were people from New Zealand and Australia. Most of my highest streams come from New Zealand. All these people listen to my songs more than Ghanaians. You could think it is Ghanaians but the most stream I get is from New Zealand. So you can track that from digital, you can go to the Sportifys, the YouTubes and know where they are listening to your music from. So when you are making music you have to have them in mind as well because now you have fans there so you don’t have to make it for the international market,” he said.

He said “With the digital space now it is good for music, now people are actually able to track how well their song is doing and where in the world you are listening.”

KiDi has songs such as Mr Badman, Say You Love Me, Enjoyment, Say Cheese, Thunder, Sugar Daddy, Adiepena among many others.

President Akufo-Addo to IGP: Provide Martin Amidu with 24-hour protection

0

The Inspector General of Police (IGP), James Oppong Boanuh, has been given an instruction by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to immediately offer 24-hour security protection to the immediate past Special Prosecutor, Martin Amidu.

This instruction to the IGP follows claims of threats made against Martin Amidu after he resigned as Special Prosecutor on Monday, November 16, 2020.

The Director of Communication at the Presidency, Eugene Arhin, in a statement, said: “The attention of the Office of the President has been drawn to claims by Mr. Martin Amidu, the former Special Prosecutor, of threats made against his life since his resignation from office. The President has, thus, directed the Inspector General of Police to provide Mr Amidu immediately with 24-hour police protection”.

He added that Mr. Amidu has been asked to provide the police with details of persons who have issued him such threats.

“The former Special Prosecutor is also encouraged to assist the police with details of persons who have made these threats against his life, so that they can be dealt with in accordance with the laws of the country”.

In an interview with an Accra-based FM, Mr. Amidu alleged that there have been some threats on his life since he resigned as the Special Prosecutor after he conducted a corruption and anti-corruption risk assessment report on the controversial Agyapa Royalties deal.

He said, “…All these threats about bugging me, armed robbery, burning my house, I’m aware”.

Amidu indicated that he made several attempts to speak to the Minister of National Security, Albert Kan-Dapaah, on the threats against him, but to no avail.

“I tried to call Kan-Dapaah, he didn’t pick up and I got a former national security advisor to contact him and tell him that, and I know the persons involved, I can name them but I reserve it for the meantime,” he said.

“I put my life for the Republic of Ghana and the president will be responsible for anything that happens to me,” Mr Amidu charged.

He said there have been a plethora of threats of robbery and arson against him. “The intelligence is there and I called the minister of national security but he didn’t pick and I got a former national security advisor to speak to him and this fact is now known and I say that the president will be responsible for anything that happens to me.”

“I’m a Ghanaian and I don’t fear anything and, as I said, to die in the cause of fighting corruption is what I started with President Jerry Rawlings on 31st December 1982 and I’m not going to leave it because some people think that they can threaten me. I don’t give a damn about that.

“…If they don’t stop, I’ll respond,” he threatened, saying: “As to what I’ll do, I reserve that for myself but as I said, whatever happens to me, I lay my life for the Republic of Ghana and the president has a constitutional duty to protect me. I don’t need any security in my house or to follow me. And anybody who makes an attempt, he will have himself to blame.”
