Mr. Drew: I support the ‘Ghanaian artistes are hungry’ movement

Date:

Mr. Drew, the Highly Spiritual Music signee, is supporting the movement started by top Ghanaian musicians in the country who are crying for better conditions for the creative industry.

According to Mr. Drew, a lot of musicians in Ghana are actually hungry; however, most of them are scared to admit it.
Shatta Wale, Edem and a host of other Musicians have on several occasions expressed their thoughts that Ghanaian musician are angry. This comments didn’t go down well with a lot of their colleagues.
Speaking on an Accra-based FM station on Wednesday, however, Mr Drew emphasized that the movement does not mean that musicians in Ghana are poor, but a collective fight to create an enabling environment for musicians to thrive financially.
Some weeks back, a controversy was stirred by the artiste, who after his ‘Eat’ song featuring Stonebwoy was taken off YouTube over copyright claims said he was paying more attention to getting his music across the shores of Ghana.
According to the ‘Dwe’ singer, he is tired of Ghanaian musicians being branded as local champions.
“I have a small fan base in the United Kingdom and United States and I hope to strengthen the fan base in these two countries and spread my wings to other parts of the world,” Mr Drew noted.
Mr Drew believes he is the biggest musician in Ghana and mentioned his biggest issue with the music industry has to do with how GHAMRO tracks revenues online.
He further said that more attention should be paid to it since many Ghanaian artists are ‘hungry’.
He is currently promoting his new song with afrobeats sensation Kelvynboy titled ‘Later’.
