The Ghana Football Association (GFA) is holding its 32nd Ordinary Congress today, Thursday, August 20, 2026, at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence in Prampram.
Delegates from clubs, technical officials, and other stakeholders have gathered for the annual statutory meeting to review the past season, examine financial and activity reports, and set the direction for the new campaign.
One recurring theme expected to feature in discussions is the association’s ongoing efforts to improve club transportation through its Bus Acquisition Strategy (BAS).
The initiative, first outlined by GFA President Kurt Okraku at the 2023 Congress in Kumasi, aims to address the long-standing challenge of clubs—particularly those in the Division One League and Women’s Premier League—relying on inadequate or uncomfortable transport for players.
Background of the Bus Programme
In November 2024, the GFA distributed nine Hyundai County buses to the top three teams from each of the three zones in the 2023/24 Access Bank Division One League.
Beneficiaries included Young Apostles, Techiman Heroes, Victory Club Warriors, Basake Holy Stars, New Edubiase, Cape Coast Ebusua Dwarfs, Vision FC, Hohoe United, and Okwawu United. Four additional buses were earmarked for Women’s Premier League clubs.
Okraku described the handover as fulfilment of a promise made to ease travel burdens and support lower-tier clubs. The plan at the time envisioned gradual expansion, with more buses to follow in subsequent seasons depending on available revenue.
