MAX BUSINESS: Bank of Ghana releases a list of 97 unlicensed mobile loan apps

Unlicensed businesses that offer loans to Ghanaians through mobile applications have been cautioned by the Bank of Ghana. The central bank said this was in contravention of the Banks and Specialised Deposit-Taking Institutions Act, 2016 (Act 930).

In an era of rapid technological advancement and growing digitalization, financial services have witnessed a significant transformation. One of the most notable changes is the emergence of mobile lending applications, which offer convenient and accessible loans to individuals in need.

A notice put out by the Bank of Ghana pointed out that, “The Bank reiterates that the activities of these entities significantly breach customer data and privacy laws, as well as consumer protection requirements and norms, with unfavorable implications on the integrity and wellbeing of their patrons.

Below is the list of the 97 unlicensed mobile loan apps according to the Bank of Ghana;
