The mother of 15-year-old Ghanaian student Javits Badu Nkansah Frimpong has called for justice following the fatal shooting of her son in the Bronx, New York.
Madam Doris Adu Gyamfi, who has travelled from Ghana to the United States following the tragedy, made the appeal upon arriving in New York ahead of her son’s funeral.
Speaking briefly after her arrival, the grieving mother said her main concern was to ensure that those responsible for her son’s death were identified and brought to justice.
“I want justice for my son, that is all,” she said.
Madam Gyamfi also revealed that Javits had aspired to become a medical doctor, describing his death as the painful loss of a young boy whose future held great promise.
The 15-year-old was shot dead on Thursday, October 29, 2026, while walking to school in the Claremont neighbourhood of the Bronx, in an incident that has shocked the Ghanaian community in New York.
Javits was reportedly shot shortly before 9:30 a.m. near Crotona Park as he made his way to DreamYard Preparatory School, where he was a Grade 10 student.
According to information from the New York Police Department, the teenager sustained a gunshot wound and was rushed to St. Barnabas Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
Investigators say three individuals dressed in hooded clothing and surgical masks were in the area before the teenager arrived.
Police accounts indicate that Javits attempted to flee when the individuals approached him, but they pursued him and opened fire.
The suspects reportedly returned to retrieve their spent shell casings before fleeing through a nearby subway station.
Police are continuing investigations into the killing, including efforts to track the suspects’ movements, establish their identities and bring those responsible before the law.
Meanwhile, the mother’s appeal for justice has added to calls from members of the Ghanaian community for a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the teenager’s death.
