Ghana has deployed 61 health workers to Grenada under a bilateral arrangement aimed at addressing the Caribbean nation’s shortage of skilled healthcare professionals while creating employment opportunities for Ghanaian workers.
The health professionals will work in various medical facilities under two-year renewable contracts as part of the government’s Labour Export Programme.
Ghana’s Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah, urged the workers to uphold professionalism, ethical standards and discipline, describing them as ambassadors of the country.
“Your certificate or your qualification may open the door for you, but your character will determine how long the door will be kept open,” Dr Debrah said.
The Minister of Labour, Jobs and Employment, Emmanuel Kwadwo Agyekum, also advised the workers to respect their contractual obligations and maintain high professional standards.
“Go and work well, don’t mess up. Try to raise the flag of Ghana. Be professional. Professionalism is key. This is what we expect from you,” he said.
Mr Agyekum further disclosed that the government plans to deploy more Ghanaian health workers to Germany and other Caribbean countries.
The Labour Export Programme is designed to expand overseas employment opportunities for Ghanaians while helping partner countries address shortages of skilled workers in their healthcare systems.
