Godfred Yeboah: We’ve Learnt Nothing From May 9 Disaster

Date:

Godfred Yeboah, the Former Asante Kotoko left-back, has said lessons from the May 9 disaster have not been taken serious considering how some fans still misbehave during games in the Ghana Premier League.

Known as TV 3 in his playing days, and a member of the Kotoko side that played the game, Godfred Yeboah was lamenting about how the shocking disaster occured and how fans still misbehave at match venues.

The match claimed the lives of 127 people due to the stampede, however, Godfred Yeboah insists we haven’t learned from what happened that night as the act of holiganism still happens at our various stadia.

“We haven’t learned anything serious from the May Night Disaster. Some fans are still misbehaving at various league centres which don’t sound well of us as Ghanaians.

“The game is not about hooliganism, it’s a game of Win, lose or draw,” he noted in an interview.

Godfred Yeboah further revealed how confident Kotoko players were ahead of that game but were amazed by the score line.

“I never thought Kotoko could loose 2-1 to Hearts of Oak on that May 9.

“We had quality team and we were confident of picking all the three points on that day. I still don’t understand how we lots that game.

The 19th anniversary of the unfortunate incident which occurred at the Accra Sports Stadium was marked

on Saturday.
