Celebrated gospel singer Obaapa Christy has asserted that she has not received vocalist awards over the years since the Ghana Music Awards scheme is organised purposely for money-making.
According to her, the award scheme is done for profit-making, and it is not something organised and funded by the government of Ghana.
Obaapa Christy made these allegations during an interview on Max Morning Show in Accra on Friday.
She explained that organisers of the Ghana Music Awards were doing business, and they decide who they would award; thus, when her time comes, she would be awarded.
”It has been a long time since I was awarded as a female vocalist. Though I have won several times before. I just don’t want to go there now. There are lots of people watching me, and many of the people love me, so let’s put it aside for now.
When the time comes and I have to receive it, I will receive it because it’s someone’s job and what the owner likes is what the owner will do. Do you understand? It is someone’s business, and what the person likes is what the person will do,” she insisted.
Obaapa maintained that the issue of the award system in the country had nothing to do with industry.
”No… It’s owned by someone. It’s not Ghana’s money they use to fund the awards. It’s someone’s business,” she emphasised.
