DKB: Coronavirus Has Killed Ghanaian Comedy

Date:

Comedian DKB, known in real life as Derick Kobina Bonney, has said that the Coronavirus pandemic has killed the comedy industry in Ghana.

Speaking on an Accra-based radio station on Saturday, 25 April 2020, DKB said “it has killed it let me tell you straight forward.”

According to DKB, he was forced to cancel his show on Easter Friday because of the ban placed on social gatherings by President Akufo-Addo as part of measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

DKB , complaining about the impact of Coronavirus  on his business, noted: “It has killed it let me tell you straight forward because on Easter Friday I had a massive comedy show, could I have done it? Our business deals with people gathering and people gathering is how the virus spreads so we (Comedians) trying to do events in this period will let others contract the virus as well, everything aside, it’s hard for us”.

Asked if he will engage in virtual concert if things do not change anytime soon, DKB said: “In comedy so far it’s only OB who tried to do some YouTube live with his fans to laugh, trying to joke for them it’s encouraging but…it is a different thing.”

DKB further added that he now understands why unemployed graduates always seem angry.

“That’s why unemployed graduates are always angry, you literally sleep the whole day and it gets to the evening and you’re so active but you must sleep again. I now feel the pain they go through, the attack they’ve been throwing to us on social media out of frustration, I now understand them, so if you’re listening and you’re an unemployed graduate, it will be fine,” he assured.
