‎Nigerians borrowed their comedy energy from Ghana— Percy Agyapong

Date:

The president of the Ghana Comedians Network, Percy Obrempong Agyapong, says Nigerians took their comedy energy from Ghana.

‎According to him, Nigerians were introduced to comedy by a former Member of Parliament for the Ablekuma South constituency, Fritz Baffour, and they began to imitate Ghana.

‎Agyapong said this during an interview on Max Morning Show in Accra on Monday, during which he said Ghana was the genesis of comedy in Africa.

‎He observed that as legendary comedians like Waterproof, Bob Santo, Nkomode and Bob Okala were doing comedy, Nigerians had no idea of comedy until the Ghanaian politician exposed them to it.

‎Agyapong noted that Nigerians rose to prominence with comedy, simply because the founders of comedy in Ghana couldn’t lay the right foundation for the generation.

‎He also stated that the numbers and economic factors helped Nigerians to export their comedy as well as Ghana at the time.

“But Ghana, we are small in numbers, but when we move, the world follows us – in music and in comedy. Now see what Shatta Wale even did? There’s a certain blessing on Ghana. If you look at the numbers of Nigeria and the numbers doing comedy, it’s basically the same people,” he added.
