Ghallywood actor Adjetey Anang has called on story writers to create contents that will preach against the impact of illegal mining, popularly known as “galamsey,” on the country’s water bodies.
According to him, the menace of illegal mining called for a drastic approach in solving the canker.
Adjetey Anang made the plea during an interview with Max Morning Show in Accra on Monday, where he expressed the need for stakeholders, including the government and the citizenry, to collectively work hand-in-hand in eradicating the menace.
He confessed to having seen the ravaged water bodies in galamsey-prone areas and was in despair about the development.
“We should have attended Galamsey for a long time. We shouldn’t have gotten to this level where our water bodies have to be contaminated to the extent that communities around those rivers find it difficult to attend to their social amenities. It’s totally no, no, no, no, no.” Adjetey Anang stated.
He maintained that due to the devastating impact of illegal mining on livelihoods, he has endorsed initiatives seeking to combat the destructive practice.
“It’s not all about people going out to make noise on the streets. Those of us who are in the creative space, let’s begin to craft stories that will speak to it because sometimes our powerful tool is to leave a visual image in the minds of people to make them realize the effect of galamsey in our lives,” Adjetey Anang added.
