A 21-year-old mobile money (MoMo) vendor, Desmond Adzah, has been shot and killed by suspected armed robbers at Quarters Junction, a suburb of Ngleshie Amanfro in the Ga South Municipality.
The shocking incident occurred around 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 9, 2025, as Desmond was on his way home from work. According to Adom News, the assailants ambushed him and fired multiple gunshots. He was rushed to the Ngleshie Amanfro Polyclinic, but unfortunately, he passed away while receiving treatment.
An eyewitness, Ruben Kumor, revealed he had interacted with Desmond shortly before the shooting.
“Desmond is known to all of us at the junction. I asked to withdraw GHC150, but he said he was short on cash. Minutes later, I heard gunshots, and someone rushed to say Desmond had been shot,” Kumor recounted.
Despite a police station being located nearby, Kumor criticized the lack of regular night patrols, suggesting that even community officers could have prevented such an attack.
“We rarely see patrols. Even community police could make a difference. This happened right after closing hours—security must improve,” he added.
Desmond’s sister, Erica Adzah, suspects that the attack was not random but rather a targeted hit.
“He was followed and possibly recognized the attackers. After shooting him, they took his bag. Because he saw their faces, they silenced him,” she alleged.
She revealed that Desmond attempted to run toward their family home nearby for refuge, but the sound of gunshots kept relatives indoors. The family is now demanding a full police investigation and government action to curb rising cases of motorcycle-assisted robberies.
“Motorbike crimes are becoming too common. We need immediate intervention to protect lives,” Erica stressed.
Residents are urging the police to intensify night patrols and conduct thorough investigations to bring the perpetrators to justice.
