Take legal action on Caleb Kudah’s physical assault – Media Foundation to Citi

Date:

The Media Foundation for West Africa, MFWA, has advised Citi FM/Citi TV and its Broadcast  Journalist, Caleb Kudah, to take legal action against National Security operatives who assaulted him.

The Foundation’s Executive Secretary, Sulemana Braimah, says no one in the National security is above the law, and that those who break the law must face the consequences.

“I only hope that as our friend Caleb has narrated, if he was indeed assaulted, this is a matter that we should talk about. We should report to the police and pursue legal action. I don’t think that anybody who is a National Security person is immune to our Justice system and so I think is something that we have to do.”

This comes after the Broadcast Journalist, Caleb Kudah, was arrested by some national security operatives for filming abandoned vehicles procured by MASLOC that had been parked at the Ministry for several years now.

Speaking on Eyewitness News, the Executive Director of the Media Foundation for West Africa, Sulemana Braimah, stated that over the last four years, Ghana’s ranking in press freedom has declined drastically.

“I think that over the last four years things have not been good for us. In 2018 Ghana was ranked number one in Africa, in terms of press freedom by reporters in our borders. Subsequently, we keep dropping although our past credentials still look good in terms of our press freedom conditions in relation to other countries in Africa. And so when it comes to the ranking, we are already positively placed, but if you look at the last four years, for example, we have about 56 individual incidents of violations. And some of these violations involved multiple journalists so you may have journalists assaulted in one particular incident. So, if we are talking about individual victims, we may be talking about 70 journalists.”

He also stated that the situation continues to occur because the victims chose not to seek justice.

“Unfortunately, nothing is done to ensure that those who commit these crimes are punished and on some occasions, the individual victims tend not to be concerned or not to be interested in pursuing the matter and in seeking justice,” he added.
