Spirited Hearts Lose To Gold Stars On Penalties

Date:

Bibiani Gold Stars remain top of the GHALCA Top 4 standings following a win over Accra Hearts of Oak on matchday 2.

The defending Ghana Premier League champions took a two-goal lead through Samuel Atta Kumi from the penalty spot in the 20th minute and Justice Arthur with a rebound tap-in fifteen minutes later.

George Paaku, 19, pulled one back for the Phobians before the end of the first half, while it only took Hussein Mohammed just three minutes into the second half to restore parity.

The game headed straight into a penalty shootout after both sides failed to score a winning goal, as head coach of Gold Stars, Frimpong Manso, brought on former Hearts captain and penalty expert Vincent Atinga.

Fortunately for the league champions, Atinga stepped forward to expertly dispatch his penalty to hand Gold Stars two points per the rules of the competition, after Abdul Karim had missed the decisive kick for Hearts.

Hearts of Oak will now shift attention to Sunday, August 24, for a battle with Asante Kotoko, while Gold Stars take on Heart of Lions.

Who wins the 2025 GHALCA Top 4? Hearts of Oak or Bibiani Gold Stars?
