The Appointments Committee of Parliament will begin public hearings today to vet President John Mahama’s nominees for various ministerial roles.
The hearings, scheduled from February 24 to 27, 2025, will start at 9:30 a.m. daily at Committee Rooms 1 and 2 of the Administration Block.
The public is expected to follow the proceedings closely, with civil society groups and analysts urging thorough scrutiny, focusing on integrity, competence, and national development. Committee Chairperson Bernard Ahiafor has assured a transparent and fair process.
Nominees and Their Mandates:
- Finance: Thomas Nyarko Ampem – Support fiscal strategies amid global challenges.
- Interior: Ebenezer Okletey Terlabi – Address national security and internal peace.
- Defence: Ernest Brogya Gyenfi – Enhance defense capabilities.
- Education: Clement Abas Apaak – Lead educational reforms and improve access.
- Energy & Green Transition: Richard Gyan-Mensah – Promote clean energy solutions.
- Roads & Highways: Alhassan Sayibu Suhuyini – Advance infrastructure development.
- Justice & Attorney General: Justice Srem-Sai – Uphold the rule of law and reforms.
- Lands & Natural Resources: Yusif Sulemana – Ensure sustainable resource management.
- Local Government: Rita Naa Odoley Sowah – Strengthen local governance.
- Works, Housing & Water Resources: Gizella Tettey-Agbotui – Address housing and water issues.
- Tourism, Culture & Creative Arts: Yussif Issaka Jajah – Boost tourism and cultural preservation.
- Food & Agriculture: John Kofi Setor Dumelo – Enhance productivity and food security.
- Trade, Agribusiness & Industry: Samson Ahi – Drive trade growth and industrial expansion.
Minister of State Nominee:
- Public Sector Reforms: Lydia Lamisi Akanvariba – Streamline operations and improve service delivery.
