Dr Daniel Asare: Nurse At Korle Bu Tests Positive For Coronavirus

0

Dr Daniel Asare, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, has disclosed that a nurse at the Hospital has tested positive for the novel coronavirus.

According to Dr Daniel Asare, the Korle Bu nurse [name witheld], tested positive for the disease some few days ago.

There had been reports from the Korle Bu hospital that some staff of the facility were threatening to lay down their tools if the government failed to provide them with Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

Complaints were made by some of the nurses that the front-line staff were highly exposed to the disease.

The nurses had earlier threatened to embark on a sit-down strike if government did not address their concerns.

The Korle Bu CEO, commenting on this , confirmed that indeed a nurse from the facility tested positive for the virus.

“It’s true a Nurse here has tested positive for COVID-19 and we’re tracing the primary source. The infected Staff has our full support….” He said.

However, Dr Asare, allayed fears of the health workers at Korle Bu, insisting that ‘there is insurance available for all the Staff so no fears’.

The unnamed nurse, he indicated further, is self-isolating at home managing the disease.

“Our Staff who tested positive for COVID-19 is in home management and everything being catered for. We’re rigorously working on the recovery,” Dr Asare said.

Border Closure Extended By President Akufo-Addo For 2 More Weeks

0

The closure of Ghana’s borders has further been extended by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for an additional two-week period.

This was announced by Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, the Information Minister, through his social media handle.

Mr. Oppong Nkrumah’s post on Twitter read, “Hi Folks, President @NAkufoAddo has by a new executive instrument, EI 66, extended the closure of Ghana’s borders by another two weeks effective midnight tomorrow April 5 “.

He explained that the move is to ensure that the risk of importation of covid-19 cases will remain curtailed while government focuses on the enhanced tracing and testing program currently underway.

“Mr President believes that these tough decisions are necessary to protect the lives of Ghanaians despite the inconvenience it causes to many.”

The post added, “We continue to thank essential service providers who are at the frontlines of this covid-19 response program. We also thank the people of Ghana for their cooperation thus far. #ThisTooShallPass”

President Akufo-Addo ordered the first closure of Ghana’s borders on Sunday, March 22, 2020. This was intended to curb the escalation of the Coronavirus infection rate in the country.

“Anybody who comes into the country, before midnight on Sunday, will be mandatorily quarantined and tested for the virus.”

President Akufo-Addo announced during his broadcast to the nation on Saturday, March 21, 2020.

He said all the country’s borders- land, air and sea- will be closed at midnight on Sunday.

“Anyone who comes will be quarantined for 14days. The closure will, however, not apply to goods, supplies, and cargo,” he added

Meanwhile, the Ghana Health Service yesterday announced Ghana has since recorded 205 coronavirus cases with a death toll of five as at April 3.

PGuards : Police Robot Deployed By Tunisia On Coronavirus Lockdown Patrol

0

A police robot has been deployed to patrol areas of Tunis, Tunisia’s capital, to ensure that people are observing a coronavirus lockdown.

If the police robot spies anyone walking in the largely deserted streets, it approaches them and asks why they are out.

They must then show their ID and other papers to the police robot’s camera, so officers controlling it can check them.

This is the second week of a nationwide lockdown to contain the virus, which has killed 14 people.

Everyone must stay in their homes, but people are allowed out for medical reasons or to purchase necessities.

The North African nation currently has 436 people being treated for Covid-19, the respiratory illness caused by coronavirus.

How the robot works.

It is not clear how many of the Tunisian-built surveillance robots, called PGuards, have been deployed by the interior ministry.

The manufacturer, Enova Robotics, told the BBC it was a confidential matter. It also refused to reveal the price tag.

A four-wheeled PGuard has a thermal-imaging camera and Lidar (light detection and ranging) technology, which works like radar but uses light instead of radio waves.

The interior ministry posted a video on Facebook about its futuristic mission to impose the restrictions not long after the lockdown started.

Some welcomed the move, while others said the robot “moved too slowly” to be effective.

However, several videos have since appeared on social media showing people being stopped by a PGuard. In one a man, who is asked if he knows there is an ongoing lockdown, explains that he wants to buy cigarettes.

The robot replies: “OK buy your tobacco, but be quick and go home.”

Before coronavirus swept the world, Enova’s clients were largely private firms, its chief sales officer Radouhane Ben Farhat told me.

The firm, which has its headquarters in the coastal city of Sousse, also produces a “healthcare” robot, he said.

It can give a preliminary visual diagnosis and use its sensors to measure certain things – and one will be soon be working at a hospital in Tunis.

This would help minimise physical contact between medics and patients with Covid-19, Mr Farhat said.

Robotic technology and artificial intelligence (AI) are increasingly being used during these exceptional times as has been seen in China, which has used disinfecting robots and thermal camera-equipped drones amongst other gadgets to fight coronavirus.

“There is something called respect which is lacking in Ghana today. For instance, you don’t compare somebody who was churning out hits before you made Kindergarten with your mate who just started a couple of years back. Show some respect, You will also get there,” a very unhappy Zapp Mallet, Emmanuel Mallet, tweeted.

However, Appietus, born Appiah Dankwah, responding to this thinks otherwise.

He said in a tweet, “@sarkodie has not disrespected anybody, as music producers n sound engineers our works re always compared by the public n award schemes! If u’ve ever won an award it means u were compared to someone and u won, if u don’t like been compared then return all ur awards #BehindDaHitz”

“Blogger don’t wake up with me so whatever they say is their business, I can’t be bothered. I think if everybody knows me, I’m the sort of person who is very positive. Even in the hardest times I’m very positive. I’m a human being so I go through that emotional state where you think ‘can you just leave me alone because am a good person’,” musician Becca said in an interview with Stacy Amoateng.

She added that “unfortunately you will think you are a good person but not everybody wants the good for you and so yes there were a lot of things flying around which honestly I didn’t really care because there was nothing you were telling me about my husband that I didn’t know so I wasn’t really bothered. Some of them were fabricated, it was more than it is but honestly, I wasn’t bothered. I was enjoying my honey in Santorini so I couldn’t be bothered.”

Becca also revealed that contrary to claims that she got married after knowing her husband for three months, they had been friends for ten years.

“My husband proposed to me actually, a year before we got married. That, people don’t know. He proposed a year, it was actually at Movenpick you know; he proposed a year before we got married. So, when people were saying Becca just got to meet the husband, in my head, I’m thinking: they said I knew him three months before we got married. I said: ‘Well, no problem” she said.
