National Paralympic Committee (NPC) President Samson Deen has congratulated Richard Akpokavie on his election as the new President of the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC), alongside the newly elected executives.
Akpokavie secured 44 votes against Michael Aggrey’s 19, marking a major comeback after narrowly losing the GOC presidency four years ago. His victory signals a fresh chapter for Ghana’s Olympic movement.
Other key results saw Evans Yeboah elected as Treasurer by a slim 3-vote margin, while Mohammed Muniru, General Secretary of Ghana Swimming, was voted GOC General Secretary, edging past Cycling President Mohammed Sahnoon.
The newly constituted GOC Board now features George Lamptey, Delphina Quaye, Kamal Sulley, Richmond Quarcoo, and George Tettey.
Call for Unity and Professionalism in Ghana Sports
In a statement, Samson Deen emphasized the need for a reset in Ghanaian sports governance:
“It is time to reset, rebrand, and transform the mindset of the sports family — aligning with the sports business model that demands discipline, credibility, and professionalism.”
Deen praised the delegates for choosing leadership based on merit, not favoritism:
“Your choice reflects a bold move away from biases and a strong commitment to a brighter, united future.”
He extended special congratulations to Secretary General-elect Muniru Kassim, Treasurer Evans Yeboah, and President-elect Richard Akpokavie, urging the Olympic family to unite for a stronger, more credible sporting nation.
