Highlife singer Sylvester Kwakye, who has stormed the industry with the name Chairman K, says music promotion in Ghana is tedious, difficult, and expensive.
He said the influx of television and radio stations has made music promotions very expensive and difficult.
Speaking exclusively to Max Drive in Accra on Thursday, Chairman K stated that a musician could not even do selective promotional strategy as the target audience now watches television stations based on content.
“Gone are the days that you will select GTV and TV3 and you will see your song becoming household music; now the television and radio stations are many, so music promotion in the country is very difficult,” he said.
Chairman K noted that the advent of digital platforms and social media had also increased the plight of musicians since a musician had to also take advantage of the social and digital space to garner attention to make their songs popular.
He said musicians had to pay extra to social media influencers to get their music known on TikTok and other platforms aside from the traditional media.
