The Fante Highlife musician, Kofi Kinaata, has received endorsement from Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene, for his strong and witty lyrics.
The Asantehene made the endorsement when he mentioned the track “Susuka” in a speech to demonstrate the traditional significance of Kinaata’s music.
This sparked a conversation on how music promotes culture, tradition, and heritage, reshaping the thought of composers on the kind of lyrics to inculcate in their music.
Kinaata was not only brought into the spotlight, but the mention of his hit track was a testament to Kinaata’s talent and the impact of his music on Ghanaian society.
Otumfuo’s speech, which emphasized the need for Ghanaians to appreciate their country’s stable democracy and judiciary, used Kinaata’s song as a metaphor for the nation’s aspirations.
Kofi Kinaata’s hit song “Susuka” was released in 2020 and has been the favorite of many Ghanaians due to its inspirational nature and the advice it gave to those in distress not to look down on themselves as their condition was better than others and in real sense someone was wishing to be like them.
Its message of contentment and self-appreciation has resonated with many and has demonstrated the power of music in shaping societal values and behavior.
