Songstress Sister Derby has urged Ghanaians to empathize with lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) people and not marginalize them.
According to her, LGBTQ people are treated like victims of domestic violence, people with albinism, and those facing racial discrimination, and she expressed the need for the act to be stopped.
Speaking in a recent media interview, the “Ama Piano” hitmaker expressed the need for collective efforts to challenge societal norms.
She also advocated for empathy, encouraging individuals to recognize and appreciate the diversity that exists within society.
Sister Derby noted that religion also played a major role in the acts of many who were marginalizing the LGBTQ society, thus emphasizing that religion has created divisions among humans, trapping them to hate each other.
She said many follow religious doctrines without giving them independent thought.
The light-skinned singer further said that religious people lack understanding and fail to accept diverse opinions.
She emphatically said religion was the driving force behind homophobia and expressed the need for religious people to be open-minded to foster a more inclusive society.
