Joseph Oduro, a student at Brown University, said that while he was conducting a study session for an impending economics exam in a lecture hall, a gunman brandishing a weapon broke through the door and made eye contact with him.
“Immediately, when I saw him, I saw a gun,” Oduro told ABC News correspondent Whit Johnson in an interview on Sunday. “The gun was so big and long that I genuinely thought, like, okay, this is the end of the road for me.”
According to authorities, the incident on Saturday resulted in at least two fatalities and nine injuries.
The gunman left the school, according to the police. On Sunday, police held and then released a person of interest. Police have not yet commented on a potential motivation, and no charges have been brought in the case.
Oduro claimed that he and perhaps fifty to sixty other students were in room 160 of the Barus & Holley building on the Brown campus in Providence, Rhode Island, when they heard a tremendous disturbance outside the door, including what sounded like gunshots and cries.
“And around five seconds or so later, we see a gunman walk in on the left-hand side,” said Oduro, who said he’s set to graduate this month.
