Bad publicity collapsed the local films— Socrate Safo

Date:

Veteran filmmaker, Socrate Safo, says the continuous bad publicity the local movie industry suffered led the public to stop patronizing the movies.

‎He therefore blamed the media for the downturn of the industry and wished the media had maintained the cordial relationship it had with the film sector.

‎Speaking in a recent media interview, Socrate Safo insisted that the media played a significant role in weakening the confidence Ghanaians had in the local films.

‎“It was all good until the same media started running the films down by talking bad against the movies they were supposed to be promoting. They were saying things like, ‘It’s not nice, and it’s boring,’ pushing away potential viewers and investors,” he stated.

‎The Filmmaker lamented that the industry earlier created business opportunities for media organisations, with filmmakers investing heavily in promotional campaigns and advertisements, in turn, the media helped the film sector to thrive through promotions and advertisements until the media began to run down the local film with bad testimonies and reviews.
