Accra floods: Efia Odo calls for a lasting solution

Date:

‎Socialite Efia Odo has cautioned Ghanaians against politicising the recent flood that has affected livelihoods in the Greater Accra region.

‎According to her, the flood is a wake-up call for the authorities to find a lasting solution in curbing such misfortune when there’s a heavy downpour.

Efia Odo, while reacting to the floods caused by hours of heavy rainfall on Monday, June 29, 2026, in a post on X, expressed concern about the devastating effects of rainfall and the need for the public to be cautious about their safety and health.

‎“It blows my mind that it rained for hours, yet so many people still felt they had no choice but to leave their homes just to make a living. We’ve been conditioned to believe that making money comes before our own safety, even when the consequences can be deadly. In many ways, we’re subconsciously becoming the walking dead,” she said.

‎Efia Odo further indicated that there was an urgent need for the government to secure livelihoods and find lasting measures in dealing with the issues of floods to protect lives and properties.

‎“Politics must be put aside, and urgent action must be taken to address these recurring floods. Year after year, lives are lost, while homes, properties, and  businesses are damaged. Ghanaians deserve infrastructure and long-term solutions that protect lives, not just promises after every disaster,” she added.
