2026 FIFA WCQ: Craig Bellamy appointed Wales manager

Date:

Former Liverpool and Manchester City winger, Craig Bellamy, has been appointed head coach of the Welsh senior men’s national team.

Bellamy, 44, who played 78 times for Wales, succeeds Robert Page, who was dismissed in June.

The new Cymru manager expressed his joy, stating this is the “proudest moment” of his career while admitting it’s a dream come true for him to lead his country.

“It was always my ultimate dream to become the Cymru head coach, and I am ready for the challenge.

“I will give my full commitment to develop this team, and I am passionate to bring continued success into Welsh football. I can’t wait to get started with our Nations League games in September.”

After leaving Burnley, where he worked as an assistant to current Bayern Munich manager Vincent Kompany, at the end of the 2023–24 season, he beat Thierry Henry, Willy Sagnol, and Des Buckingham to the job.
