Nigerian musician, David Adeleke, known by his stage name Davido, has declared his intentions to leave his first child, in the custody of his mother, Sophia Momodu.
His declaration follows a counter affidavit filed by his ex, Momodu, who claims that Davido is unfit to have custody of their daughter.
The lawyer of Momodu in court on Friday, July 5, responded to the earlier suit filed by Davido, who alleged that the artiste’s home was unsafe for his daughter, Imade, considering the events that led to the tragic death of his son, Ifeanyi, in 2022.
“The applicant cannot take proper care of our daughter because he lives a controversial lifestyle (negative media attention) that will expose our daughter to more negative trauma at her tender age.”
“The fact that the applicant lost his son in his house in rather unfortunate and questionable circumstances shows that our daughter cannot be placed in the custody of the applicant,” part of the petition read.
Responding to Momodu’s assertions in an X post on Friday, Davido stated that the death of his son continued to haunt him for years and expressed bitterness for Momodu bringing the tragic issue up in the custody case.
“You’re constantly bringing up the death of my child at any point you can to just remind us of this tragedy that haunts us every day of our lives,” he wrote on X on Friday, July 5.
Davido further stated his daughter would not remain a child forever; she would grow to see how he fought for her as he only requested joint custody, not necessarily to take the child away from her mother.
“Imade will grow up to see that I fought for her… as for now, u can have her… P.S she won’t be a child forever.. enjoy, Imade Aurora Adeleke! Your father loves you.”
“All I asked for was ‘joint custody’ but cus it’s Davido y’all wanna act like y’all can’t read! SMH I’m off this … y’all be blessed and I pray this never happens to you,” he added.
