The Volta River Authority (VRA) has denied owning the Jet A-1 with registration number 9G-AFW, which forcefully landed in Nkawkaw in the Eastern Region.
The tragic helicopter crash, which resulted in the sudden deaths of eight occupants, including two ministers, has clearly made pilots cautious when flying.
On August 11, five days after the tragic disaster, the Jet A-1 with registration number 9G-AFW was involved in an emergency landing, with wide reports linking ownership to the VRA.
However, an official statement by the VRA emphatically declares otherwise:
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
HELICOPTER EMERGENCYLANDING INNKAWKAW
The Volta River Authority has noted with grave concern media publications suggesting that a helicopter which belongs to VRA has emergency landed in Nkawkaw in the Eastern Region.
We would like to state unequivocally that the said helicopter does not belong to VRA and neither does VRA operate aviation services.
Our checks indicate that the helicopter in question belongs to the Volta River Aviation Limited (VRAL) which is registered with the Petroleum Commission.
The mandate of the Volta River Authority is to provide affordable reliable electricity to power economies and add value to lives. Our mandate does not include the provision of aviation services.
The public is strongly advised to disregard any such reports.
The media is also advised to make the necessary enquiries with VRA Corporate Affairs and External Relations Department for accurate information before such publications are made.
We can be reached via email at corpcomm@vra.com or you can contact Francis Kobena Abban (Manager Corporate Communications and Branding) on 0302-218551/ 0245-823734.
Thank you.
