2026 Commonwealth Games: Highlights from Day 3

Date:

On a night of several Games records in the pool, Lani Pallister was the standout performer, to continue Australia’s Swimming dominance, with a dominant victory in the inaugural Women’s 1500m Freestyle at the Commonwealth Games. It was Pallister’s second gold, and third individual medal, of Glasgow 2026.

Ellie Black bagged her eighth Commonwealth medal when she won gold in the Women’s All-Around Artistic Gymnastics competition, 12 years after she first topped the podium, at Glasgow 2014. Black, 30, reclaimed the title she last won at Gold Coast 2018. Fellow Canadian, Lia-Monica Fontaine, who is 14 years Black’s junior took bronze.

The Australian Diamonds, the defending Commonwealth champions, proved they will again be the team to beat in the Netball with a convincing win against fellow heavyweights England in Pool A. Sophie Garbin scored 41 goals from 42 attempts for the Aussies in a 66-47 victory (pictured). The 2018 champions England will need to improve if they want to make the podium, which they failed to do at Birmingham 2022.

India’s Rishikanta Singh Chanambam and Malaysia’s Bin Kasdan Mohamad Aniq pulled off an identical Commonwealth record snatch today when they both lifted 121kg in the Men’s 60kg competition. The latter won gold after six clean lifts. India’s Mirabai Chanu Saikhom, an Olympic silver medallist, set a Commonwealth record in the Women’s 48kg snatch – raising 85kg aloft to a huge roar – then set another Games record of 105kg in the clean and jerk.

Reuben Ward won gold in the Men’s Artistic Gymnastics All-Around competition – the first time a Scot has ever claimed the title – edging out Canada’s Felix Dolci thanks to scores of more than 14 on the Pommel Horse and Vault.
