Hon. Mustapha Ussif, the minister of youth and sports, has unsurprisingly criticized the National Sports Authority (NSA) for being unbale to manage the CAF-approved Baba Yara Sports Stadium.
The leadership of the National Sports Authority received a heavy backlash following footage of the only CAF-approved stadium in Ghana being used for a religious event.
The result of this irresponsible decision of the NSA to allow the event without properly protecting the pitch resulted in a haste by them to get the facility ready days leading to Ghana’s 2025 AFCON qualifier against Angola, which the latter won, causing Ghanaians to have a go at the NSA, Ghana Football Association, and the Ministry of Youth and Sports.
Appearing before the Parliamentary Select Committee on Sports on Tuesday, September 24, 2024, Hon. Mustapha Ussif admitted the NSA failed by unilaterally allowing the use of Baba Yara for the religious event in July 2024.
“Of course, [the NSA failed in its duty] by its singular decision to rent the Kumasi Stadium for that program just before the Angola match,” he said to the committee.
