0

According to Legendary Ghana forward Asamoah Gyan suggestions that he is not on good terms with Black Stars Captain Andre Ayew is never true.

Before the Nations Cup in 2019, Asamoah Gyan was stripped of the captaincy role for Andre Ayew raising questions about the relationship of the two Black Star players.

However, Asamoah Gyan, who is a 34-year old Black Stars forward , insists he has no problems with Swansea attacker Andre Ayew.

“No I don’t have any problem with Andre, I think people (outside) created that impression, sometimes we even laugh about it,” he told TV3 Sports.

“In life you don’t know people’s mind, I might talk to you right now but I might not like you but I have to talk to you.

“I see what is in-front of me, I don’t see what is behind me. For me what I see in Andre, I don’t have any problem, but behind I don’t know (what he thinks of me) behind.

“Behind he doesn’t know what I also have in mind. But from what I see, he is a positive guy, who knows his job, who is very passionate about his job, who laughs, who motivates people. That is the Andre I know,” he concluded.

Ghanaian comedian Funny Face has been caught up in a brewing controversy as he has slammed colleagues Kwadwo Nkansah Lilwin, Bismark the Joke, and Kalybos for allegedly spreading lies and rumours about him.

Funny Face, in a viral video, sighted by www.maxfmlive.com , angrily called out the trio and accused them of betraying him.

In the video, he said “Funny Face you’ve been destroyed for too long come out, Lil Win, Kalybos, Bismark The Joke, what have I done to you?”  .

Funny Face, appearing shocked over the betrayal of his friends, revealed that Kalybos even begged to have his girl, so he had to allow him to sleep with his girl for the sake of friendship.

“You Kalybos, stupid n*gga like you. You are so envious of everything that you even wanted a girl I slept with and begged me for her. Foolish man, I gave her to you because the girl too I have seen that she’s a fool, so I make you fire, how many n*ggas go fit do this? You and Lil Win” he said.

The Kasoa Trotro actor further said that “Lil Win I have forgiven you but you continue doing it, don’t try, your secrets that I have to release, you guys will be fed up” and dared his colleagues to say a word and he will expose the skeletons in their closets”

According to Funny Face, his instincts have convinced him to come out and speak about these things before he dies.

Kidi: It’s Hard But I Go To Church When My Schedule Permits

0

Kidi, the Ghanaian Sensational artiste, has said that going to church has become quite difficult for him because of his performance schedules.

Many people believe that Ghanaian artistes, such as Kidi, who do secular music, have no time to attend church and for the gospel.

In an interview on a radio station, Kidi , who was answering a question whether  he was a Christian and how often he went to church, had this to say;

“Oh yeah I’m a Christian and I do go to church. But I don’t always get the chance to attend church service frequently because of my routine performance schedules. As a musician, I travel a lot to perform at different events in different parts of the country and some of these shows are often staged during the weekends.

“Sometimes I play a show in the midnight and by the time the show ends it will already be daybreak and when you return home it might be midday or in the evening. This makes it practically impossible to attend church service as frequently as I wish but when my schedule permits, I do go to church” he replied.

DKB: Coronavirus Has Killed Ghanaian Comedy

0

Comedian DKB, known in real life as Derick Kobina Bonney, has said that the Coronavirus pandemic has killed the comedy industry in Ghana.

Speaking on an Accra-based radio station on Saturday, 25 April 2020, DKB said “it has killed it let me tell you straight forward.”

According to DKB, he was forced to cancel his show on Easter Friday because of the ban placed on social gatherings by President Akufo-Addo as part of measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

DKB , complaining about the impact of Coronavirus  on his business, noted: “It has killed it let me tell you straight forward because on Easter Friday I had a massive comedy show, could I have done it? Our business deals with people gathering and people gathering is how the virus spreads so we (Comedians) trying to do events in this period will let others contract the virus as well, everything aside, it’s hard for us”.

Asked if he will engage in virtual concert if things do not change anytime soon, DKB said: “In comedy so far it’s only OB who tried to do some YouTube live with his fans to laugh, trying to joke for them it’s encouraging but…it is a different thing.”

DKB further added that he now understands why unemployed graduates always seem angry.

“That’s why unemployed graduates are always angry, you literally sleep the whole day and it gets to the evening and you’re so active but you must sleep again. I now feel the pain they go through, the attack they’ve been throwing to us on social media out of frustration, I now understand them, so if you’re listening and you’re an unemployed graduate, it will be fine,” he assured.

Coronavirus: KNUST Develops Rapid Covid-19 Diagnostic Test Kits

0

There has been a scientific breakthrough in Ghana’s fight against the outbreak of the novel coronavirus coming from KNUST in Kumasi.

To add to the research to find a vaccine and the local production of PPEs in Ghana, scientists at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) in collaboration with Incas Diagnostics, a diagnostic company in Kumasi, have developed an indigenous COVID-19 test kit to boost Ghana’s testing capacity.

KNUST and Incas Diagnostics have developed and are optimising a Rapid Diagnostic Tests (RDT) for COVID-19 testing.

This very important contribution by KNUST towards the fight against COVID-19 will complement the current coronavirus testing regime in Ghana.

Developing the Rapid Diagnostic Tests (RDT) is in line with two (2) of Ghana’s objectives in the fight against COVID-19; contain the spread of the virus, inspire the expansion of domestic capability and deepen self-reliance.

Using a finger-prick blood and in lateral flow format, similar to blood glucose test or home pregnancy test, these serological test detects two different types of antibodies produced by the body to fight off the COVID-19 infection about 7 days after infection and also in those who have been exposed to the virus but not showing any symptoms (asymptomatic) or recovered from infection.

Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) is the current molecular diagnostics, which is being used in Ghana, detects parts of the viral genome very early in infection and takes at least 48 hours from testing to results; potentially delaying contact tracing and other efforts.

Another short coming of the PCR tests is that it is also unable to identify people who have been infected (symptomatic or asymptomatic) and recovered.

But, KNUST/Incas RDT detects asymptomatic cases, enables decentralised testing to be done anywhere without requiring any equipment. It also requires little technical training for those performing the test.

The RDT takes 15-20 minutes to perform and would enable those tested to know their results in a shorter time to enable decision making in real-time by health authorities.

A key use of this RDT would be for mass testing of the population to identify all those who have been exposed to the virus and thus provide key data for efforts to model the course of the pandemic and also enhance contact tracing efforts.

By indicating how much of the population is already likely immune because of mild coronavirus infections, antibody data can offer a key to how fast the virus will continue to spread.

It could also, in the future, help identify recovered patients who could then donate their SARS-CoV-2 antibody-rich serum to help treat critically ill patients as is being done in some countries.

The RDT can also be used to identify frontline health workers who have been infected and developed likely immunity to the virus.

They would then be able to return to work early and treat patients safely.

The antibody tests, for researchers in Ghana, would enable the study of the dynamics of immune responses of infected people.

As Ghana intends partnering and supporting COVID-19 vaccine development, the antibody tests would be invaluable in determining individual and community responses to the vaccine.

KNUST and Incas Diagnostics throughout the development have been in touch with the Ministry of Health and the National COVID-19 Response Team.

The Food and Drugs Authority is currently being engaged by the developers for the necessary regulatory framework.

Sammy Gyamfi: NPP Govt Full Of Talk, No Action

0

Sammy Gyamfi, the National communications officer of the largest opposition party National Democratic Congress (NDC), has labelled the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government as loud-mouthed with zero actions.

According to Sammy Gyamfi, the government has handled concerns and policies structured in battling the Coronavirus outbreak in a less proactive and sloppy manner.

Sammy Gyamfi further added that President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo is fond of delivering lofty promises but always found wanting when it comes to actual implementation.

According to him , that has resulted in the current 1154 cases of coronavirus recorded in the country.

“Government’s handling of COVID-19 situation has not been the best. It’s been more of talk and less of action. It’s been sloppy, delayed in taking critical decisions. The response has not been proactive but rather reactive and that is what accounts for the situation we have on our hands. That’s why we have over 1154 persons testing positive for the disease,” he stated.

Sammy Gyamfi also noted that the fact that Ghana has recorded the most coronavirus cases in West Africa is worrisome.

“In the whole of West Africa today, Ghana is the leading country. We have more positive COVI-19 cases than any other country in West Africa. How can that be something to celebrate? Sierra Leone has recorded on 63 cases and only one death. Gambia has recorded ten positive cases with only one death. They adopted containment measures very early,” he established.

President Akufo-Addo To Media: ‘Ignore’ Politicians, Talk To Scientists About Coronavirus

0

President Akufo-Addo has said that “when people are going to talk about this disease (Coronavirus), they will talk about it from the viewpoint of science. Get the scientists. Let them be the ones to talk. Get those who have specialist information. That is what I will encourage you to do.”

On April 24, President Akufo-Addo made this statement when he met with the leadership of the National Media Commission, the Ghana Journalists Association, the Ghana Independent Broadcasters Association, the Private Newspaper Publishers Association of Ghana, as well as the leadership of State-Owned media organisations on the Coronavirus pandemic.

In his remarks, President Akufo-Addo encouraged the media to “bring those who have the knowledge, and let them, through you, explain these matters to the public.”

Whilst acknowledging that politicians would want to comment on everything, the President stated that, for the time being, I don’t see the politics involved in what we are doing. What we want to see is as much as possible the airwaves being filled with the information that the scientists have.”

Stressing that the country is blessed with a crop of good scientists who have credible information about the virus, President Akufo-Addo noted that he is privileged to be working with some of them, including the Presidential Advisor on Health, Dr. Anthony Nsiah Asare, and the Co-ordinator of the Ghana Covid-19 Task Force, Dr Asamoah Baah.

“Luckily for me, he (Dr.Asamoah Baah) had just come back for retirement when these events broke. He was a central feature and element in the planning of the WHO when the Ebola pandemic broke out. Clearly, he has the experience and the background to deal with this. I corralled him to come and help lead the thinking on the things that we need to do. We have serious, excellent, responsible people who have a lot of information,” he added.

Sam George: Akufo-Addo Endorsing illegality And Irresponsibility Of EC

0

Sam Nartey George, the Member of Parliament for Ningo Prampram, has accused President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and the seat of government of endorsing what he says are illegal and irresponsible actions being displayed by heads of the country’s Electoral body.

The accusations by Sam George follows a supposed meeting held by some Electoral Commission officials at the Airport City Escape Hotel in Accra Saturday.

Mr.Sam George, who had earlier secured a court injunction against a planned workshop by the EC in his constituency, said the move was a violation of the country’s laws and impropriety.

Storming the place with some other party members to ascertain the details of the,Sam Georgeexpressed disappointment in the leaders of the commission whom he claims acted with approval from the presidency.

His displeasure was based on the argument that the EC and officials present at the location were flouting government’s directives against the holding of any political or public gatherings in the wake of the fast-spreading coronavirus pandemic, as well as some Executive Instruments.

“It is a sad day for the rule of law and the country. Our constitutional body is trying to disregard the ruling or orders of the court in a body that has a lawyer as the commissioner, has chosen to flout the order of the land.”

“The court order was clear, that a meeting, or a workshop by the Electoral Commission or any other body where EI 64 and EI 67 are in effect, is illegal and both are not peculiar to Ningo Prampram. The issue by the President Akufo-Addo, covers the entire republic of Ghana so an offence in Ningo Prampram is an offence in any other part of the country where you do this. And that is why you see police clamp down weddings outside of Accra and other parts of the country. Bottom line here is that when the Electoral Commission says it is holding a workshop meeting, my understanding after meeting the police is that they say they are meeting in groups of 20.

The law for the gathering of 25 is specific to private burials, not even funerals, and so unless what is going on here at the City Escape Hotel is a private burial, what is going on in there is an illegality that has been established by a competent court of jurisdiction in this country.” He said.

He further alleged that the electoral body has gained authority to act the way it is, because it has the authorization of top figures.

“Take it from me, the Electoral Commission and I say this without equivocation. The EC is doing what they are because they have the tacit approval of the Flagstaff House. President Akufo-Addo is endorsing the illegality and irresponsibility of the EC and this is a man who claims to be a towing of the rule of law, what happened to the rule of law? Jean Mensa cannot do what she is doing if the Flagstaff House does not approve of her actions.”

Party officials including NDC aspiring member of Parliament for the Ayawaso West Constituency, John Dumelo and Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress, Peter Otukonor were present.

Police statement

Meanwhile, Greater Accra Operations Commander of the Ghana Police Service, Chief Supt. KwesiOfori, who was there with his men noted that they met some less than 20 EC officials at the lobby of the hotel and not in an official meeting.

“We met some officials at the lobby and we’ve spoken to them. We did not see any formal meeting going on but we met some officials at the lobby. Less than 20 officials. We have advised that following their complaint, they should go back to the airport police, see the district commander and follow formalities.

Sam George’s injunction

Sam George secured an injunction against the Electoral Commission’s decision to hold a workshop at the City Escape Hotel in his Constituency.

The ex-parte injunction was granted by the Tema High Court.

The EC’s planned workshop for its directors and deputies was scheduled for April 24 to 29 at Prampram to discuss the compilation of a new voter register.

The meeting was to be held in three different batches in order to observe the social distancing protocols amidst the outbreak of the coronavirus in Ghana.

The plans for new register are currently on suspension because of the coronavirus pandemic.

The voters registration exercise was initially scheduled to begin on April 18, due to COVID-19.

Following the suspension, the EC had said it is collaborating with health experts to decide on a more favourable date depending on the prevalence rate of the virus.
