Accra, Baba Yara, Legon, and Cape Coast Closed Down for Renovations

Date:

Ghana’s main stadia, from Monday, August 31, 2026, will be closed down for major renovations.

The Director General for the National Sports Authority (NSA), Mr Yaw Ampofo Ankrah, according to the reports, confirmed the shutdown of Accra Sports Stadium.

This means Accra Hearts of Oak, which uses the Accra Sports Stadium as its home venue, will have to look for a new place to call home.

Other confirmed Stadia shutdown via Mx FM’s Sports Pack show include the Baba Yara Stadium and Cape Coast Stadium.

The major reason for the shutdown is to prepare adequately for the upcoming CAF U-20 AFCON Championship.

The Accra Sports Stadium, however, will be opened for the Black Stars of Ghana’s 2027 AFCON qualifier against The Gambia on September 27, 2026.

Ghana is pitted against The Gambia, Ivory Coast, and Somalia in Group C for a place at next year’s AFCON.
