Asante Kotoko Sporting Club has officially banned Asempa FM from covering its events and boycotted all its channels, effective March 3, 2025. The club cites unethical journalism, false reporting, and a lack of integrity by the station’s host, ‘Prof’ EK Wallace, and its management.
A statement signed by Kotoko’s Director of Communications, Samuel Sarfo Duku, highlights key reasons for the media blackout:
Biased Reporting – The club claims Asempa FM’s program was intentionally designed to protect individuals linked to the murder of Kotoko supporter Francis Yaw Frimpong (Pooley).False Statements – Reckless and misleading remarks were allegedly made during a 17-minute broadcast. Security Concerns – The program’s content was not shared with security agencies before or after airing. Disrespect for Justice – Asempa FM allegedly disregarded the gravity of the murder case, undermining security agencies.
Lack of Accountability – No disciplinary action has been taken against the host, despite public outrage.
Kotoko SC strongly condemns Asempa FM’s repeated use of defamatory and derogatory language against the club, officials, players, and supporters. The club insists it will not tolerate any media platform misrepresenting facts or shielding criminals in Ghanaian football.
While acknowledging the importance of media in football, Kotoko calls for responsible journalism and pledges to uphold fairness, truth, and integrity in sports reporting.
The club urges fans to stay calm and law-abiding despite provocations and misinformation. Justice for Pooley remains a top priority as Kotoko continues to advocate for accountability.
