The Ministry of Roads has introduced a 24-hour construction schedule for the rehabilitation of the Darkuman Junction–Kaneshie First Light corridor in Accra to speed up work and ensure timely completion of the project.
The rehabilitation works, being undertaken by contractors including Awerco Construction Limited, involve road repairs, civil engineering works and the construction of underground storm drains along sections from Atico Junction through Kaneshie First Light to Hansonic Junction.
The decision to extend construction activities around the clock is expected to accelerate progress and improve traffic flow along the busy route, which serves commuters travelling between Kaneshie, Darkuman, Dansoman and surrounding communities.
The project is aimed at addressing deteriorating road surfaces and persistent drainage challenges that have disrupted movement and raised concerns about the safety of motorists and other road users.
Construction commenced on Friday, August 21, 2026, following the engagement of contractors by the Ministry to rehabilitate damaged sections of the road and upgrade drainage infrastructure.
Ongoing excavation and drain construction have necessitated localised traffic adjustments along parts of the corridor.
Motorists are therefore expected to exercise caution when approaching active construction zones.
When completed, the project is expected to restore damaged road surfaces, improve the management of stormwater and provide a safer, more durable road network for daily commuters.
The works, which cover key sections between Atico Junction, Kaneshie First Light and Hansonic Junction, are also expected to strengthen connectivity between surrounding communities and ease transportation difficulties along the route.
The Ministry’s adoption of the 24-hour schedule is intended to sustain construction momentum and keep the project on track to meet its designated completion deadline.
