Yaw Preko, assistant head coach of the Black Meteors of Ghana, has laughed off wild allegations levelled at head coach Desmond Ofei.
The Black Meteors of Ghana are currently in camp, preparing for their upcoming 2028 LA Olympic qualifier against Libya.
It has been 22 years, a whole generation, since Ghana qualified for the men’s football event at the Olympic Games.
A former Ghanaian international, now helping in the technical dugout as an assistant coach, acknowledged the importance of the assignment given.
As preparation continues, there have been reports indicating the head coach, Ofei, hardly visited match centres to watch his players play.
A further question has also been raised about the current players called up, whether they were actually scouted by Coach Ofei himself or not.
Speaking on Max FM’s Sports Pack show, Coach Preko debunked the circulating reports and assured tabs had been kept on the players in camp at Prampram.
“It is untrue that Desmond Ofei does not attend local matches to watch Black Meteors players,” he said to Nana Darkwa Gyasi.
With foreign players yet to be released by their clubs to join the team in camp, Coach Preko disclosed the technical team has immense faith in the locally based players to deliver.
“It is not compulsory for the foreign clubs to release our players for Olympic qualifier… The local-based players would be ready to face Libya in the Olympic qualifier.”
