I chose the name “African Mermaid” to change the negatives about “Maame Water” – Sister Deborah

Date:

Ghanaian music sensation Sister Deborah has revealed that she chose the name African Mermaid to change the negative narrative of an African deity known locally as “Maame Water”.

Speaking in an interview on Max TV’s Up Close Show, hosted by Joseph Marshall Agyapong (a.k.a Marshall), Sister Deborah said “I call myself the African Mermaid. Yea, Maame Water, in the sense that I’m trying to change the negative perception we have about Maame Water.”

According to the Uncle Obama hit maker, she believes whatever you believe you give it power and that every believe system has its negatives and positives.

Sister Deborah, known in real life as Deborah Vanessa Owusu-Bonsu, said “I think every power or every believe has a good side and a bad side, so we need to focus and appreciate the good side of our traditional or African powers.”

Sister Deborah was born to an Ashanti father and a Romanian mother. Both of her parents were collectors of world music and art. She is a television show host, model, musician, academic and graphic artist. Owusu-Bonsu is the sister of popular hip life musician Wanlov the Kubolor.
