Under the governing regulations, cocaine is categorized as a substance of abuse. Because the ingestion occurred outside the competitive window and was determined to be unrelated to sports performance, the standard disciplinary framework permitted a reduced period of ineligibility upon prompt admission and participation in an approved treatment program.
The international tennis integrity authorities confirmed that Kyrgios cooperated fully throughout the inquiries, allowing the shortened sanction to take effect immediately and sideline him from tour events during the designated period.
It is worth noting that the 31-year-old Australian tennis star reached the men’s singles final at Wimbledon in 2022 and has captured seven ATP singles titles throughout his career.
