The Ghana High Commission, Pretoria, has cautioned Ghanaian residents in the country against providing unverified information, which may cause panic and tension.
There is ongoing unrest in South Africa as a number of her people are protesting against African immigrants in the country, demanding they return to their native countries.
The rising anti-migrant sentiment among some South Africans is threatening diplomatic fallouts between their country and other countries and has forced President Cyril Ramaphosa to vow a crackdown (which is yet to be seen) on attacks on African immigrants.
In an official statement from the Ghana High Commission, Pretoria advised members of the Ghanaian community to be vigilant, avoid confrontation, and prioritise their personal safety.
The High Commission further urged Ghanaian residents to report anti-foreigner incidents to dedicated directories: +27 72 514 5476 / +27 72 614 3856 / +27 72 415 3373 / +27 76 771 8726 / +27 71 985 8042.
