2026 WAFCON: Ghana sail through to quarter-finals

Date:

The Black Queens of Ghana booked their place in the next round of the ongoing WAFCON after a hard-fought 1-1 draw against Mali in their final group match.

Evelyn Badu gave the Black Queens the breakthrough deep into first-half stoppage time when she converted a well-delivered cross from Kusi, giving Ghana a crucial 1-0 lead four minutes into added time.

Mali responded after the restart through Diabate, finding the back of the net just five minutes into the second half to level the score at 1-1 and set up a tense contest.

Both sides pushed relentlessly in search of a winning goal that would strengthen their hopes of qualification, creating chances at either end.

However, neither team could find the decisive breakthrough as the match ended in a stalemate.

The result proved sufficient for Ghana, with the Black Queens securing qualification to the next stage of the tournament.

Ghana will now engage in a knockout clash against Malawi as they continue their quest for WAFCON glory.
